The Associated Press reports New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said the team will keep five wide receivers – certainly no more than six – this season. It appears that WRs Devery Henderson, Marques Colston and Jamal Jones are competing for the second through fourth slots on the team. Also in the mix are Chris Horn, Mike Hass, Chase Lyman and Lance Moore.

Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the New Orleans Saints have a crowded group at wide receiver, where WRs Joe Horn, Donte' Stallworth, Devery Henderson, Lance Moore, Chris Horn, Marques Colston, Bethel Johnson, Chase Lyman, Jamal Jones, Mike Hass and Michael Lewis are battling for four or five spots on the active roster. For some of them to have a chance at making the final roster, they will have to prove themselves to be valuable not only at receiver but also on special teams.

Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints director of player personnel Rick Mueller is negotiating a contract with rookie, fourth-round draft pick WR Chase Lyman. Lyman is expected to receive a three-year deal, but because of his knee injury he is not expected to sign until late in training camp.

Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints rookie WR Chase Lyman (knee) has been going through rehab for his torn ACL. Lyman will report to training camp with the team July 29 and he still feels there is a chance he can play this season. "We'll see," Lyman said. "I'm definitely not giving up on this season. I don't know if the Saints are counting on me or not, but I wouldn't write this year off." The injury will not affect Lyman's contract status. Saints officials have assured him that they plan to honor the commitment they made when they selected him with the No. 118 overall pick of the fourth round.

Jeff Duncan, reports for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, New Orleans Saints rookie WR Chase Lyman (knee) underwent reconstructive surgery Monday, May 16. Dr. Arthur Ting was going to repair the damaged ligament with a tendon from a cadaver, the same surgery he did last October after Lyman injured the knee initially as a senior in college. Head coach Jim Haslett said Lyman will rehabilitate the injury in California and is expected to rejoin the team in the fall.

Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints rookie WR Chase Lyman (knee) suffered a knee injury Friday, May 6 at the team's rookie minicamp. General Manager Mickey Loomis said the injury is being evaluated, and he expects to know more Monday, May 9. Lyman had a long and varied injury history in college that limited him to eight career starts.
