Mike Spofford, of Packers.com, reports Green Bay Packers S Marviel Underwood (knee) is right where he needs to be as he recovers from a surgically-repaired right knee. Underwood said, "If we had to go today and play in the season, I believe I could go and play. That's how I feel. But I'm still taking it slow, and it's hard to take it slow." Head coach Mike McCarthy and the team's medical staff is trying to not rush anything. McCarthy has said getting Underwood back for June OTAs might be "pushing it," and the start of training camp is a more likely target.

Tests showed that the second-year defensive back has multiple torn ligaments, including his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament.

"Last year everything was going fast," Underwood said. "There was a lot of pressure on me and (S Nick Collins), both rookies. They were throwing the defense at us. Coming out of college you're not used to that. Now I feel like I know the defense in and out, I'm used to studying it, going over it in OTAs, coming in every day and getting a head start on everything. It makes it so much easier."

Freeman played in defensive coordinator Jim Bates' defensive system in Miami the last five years and clearly was the most comfortable and in command at safety during the Packers' minicamps. He started 25 games the past three seasons. Rookie S Marviel Underwood is working primarily at strong safety and he will be battling for the starting job along with veteran safeties Todd Franz and Earl Little.
