Tennessee Titans RP LeGarrette Blount is a strong runner, but his knowledge of the playbook remains limited and he's still considered a liability in pass protection, according to The Nashville Tennessean's Jim Wyatt. That combination figures to make him a candidate for the eight-man practice squad over the roster. RP Samkon Gado has a good feel for the offense and is much more valuable on special teams. However, he does not catch the ball and might not have the upside of Blount. RP Alvin Pearman, who is also in competition for the last running back spot, does not have a single carry in the preseason. He has experience in the return game, but the team has other options for that role.

Vic Carucci, of NFL.com, reports even though Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew will be the focal point of the team's running game this season, he will likely share carries with the team's other running backs. Jones-Drew's relief includes RBs Rashad Jennings, Chauncey Washington, Alvin Pearman and FB Greg Jones. "We have a boatload of guys that can play, so it's not just me," Jones-Drew said. The Associated Press reports the Jacksonville Jaguars ran for a franchise-record 375 yards during their 44-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts Week 14. RB Maurice Jones-Drew ran for a career-high 166 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. He also returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown during the game. RB Fred Taylor (hamstring) ran for 131 yards with a touchdown on nine carries before leaving the game with a sore right hamstring. RB Alvin Pearman added another 71 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Toefield didn't carry the ball or catch a pass Sunday, Sept. 25, in the Jaguars' 26-20 overtime victory at the Jets. Pearman carried four times against the Jets, averaging 5.5 yards per rush, and Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said he likes the fourth-round pick's ability to hit the hole quickly. "Alvin Pearman continues to do a nice job for us," Del Rio said Monday, Sept. 26. "He probably has a little more burst to him (than Toefield). He's a good football player."
