NFL | Police and courts: Ford pleads guilty to shooting

Thu, 11 May 2006 13:41:06 -0700

Ken Ritter, of the Associated Press, reports former NFL PK Cole Ford plead guilty to shooting at the home of entertainers Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn in 2004. Ford agreed to a felony plea that could lower his suspended sentence to one to six years in a Nevada prison, as long as he continues mental health treatment at a center in Tucson, Ariz. Clark County District Judge Jackie Glass ruled him incompetent to stand trial a year ago and rejected his attempts to plead guilty to the charges. Thursday, May 11, Glass deemed him competent and asked him if he understood the plea agreement, which will also require him to pay restitution and have no contact with Fischbacher or Horn. Ford plead guilty to shooting at a structure while several felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, were dismissed. Glass set sentencing for June 20, but he could be transferred to Tucson sooner if a suitable treatment center is found.

Raiders | Former Kicker Fires at Siegfried and Roy

Sat, 09 Apr 2005 20:34:19 -0700

Former Oakland Raiders PK Cole Ford, charged with firing several shotgun blasts at the Las Vegas compound of illusionists Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn in September 2004, viewed the entertainers as a threat, according to a psychiatric evaluation report. The report, published in the Saturday, Apr. 9 edition of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was conducted last November by psychiatrist Norton Roitman. Roitman wrote, "While watching Siegfried and Roy, [Ford] had a sudden realization that what was wrong with the world was linked to the illusionists' treatment, dominance and unhealthy intimacy he saw them having with their animals. He saw their illusions as their power to distort and change reality. He felt they threatened [the] world, and he began to figure out how he could stop them." Ford, who has been ruled incompetent to stand trial, has been sent to a mental health facility for treatment, according to the Associated Press. No one was injured in the shooting.
