The Detroit Lions would love for DE Cliff Avril, entering his third-year, to step up and be the starter opposite DE Kyle Vanden Bosch this season, reports Tim Twentyman, of The Detroit News. DE Jason Hunter could also be in the mix, after having a sack in each of the team's final three games last season.

Detroit Lions DE Kyle Vanden Bosch said he likes how the defensive line has progressed so far during offseason workouts, reports Tara Ryan, of DetroitLions.com. "I feel like over the last few weeks we've been making improvements and we're getting a good feel for where we're at and where we need to be. I couldn't be happier with the way our group is working and improving and really buying into what we're trying to do," Vanden Bosch said.

Detroit Lions DE Kyle Vanden Bosch believes DT Ndamukong Suh could have an immediate impact with the team, reports John Niyo, of The Detroit News. Vanden Bosch said, "He was a Heisman Trophy candidate as a defensive tackle, which never happens. I mean, he has a special skill set, an unusual combination of strength and agility. So I think he was built to play this system. And I think he'll flourish. So basically what I'm saying is he needs to come in and learn and get the technique down. But he seems like a kid who will pick it up fairly quickly. So I wouldn't be surprised if he came out and was an impact player his first year."

Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions DL Jared DeVries said he is eager to compete for the team's starting left defensive end spot along with DL Kyle Vanden Bosch. "My vision is to be the starting left end, but obviously, I'll have to compete for that like I do every year," DeVries said. "That would've been my role last year had I not gotten hurt but, like I said, it's good to be back around the fellas and the competition is good and I look forward to it."

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports the Tennessee Titans plan to let impending free-agent DL Kyle Vanden Bosch head into the market, banking that he will not find a team willing to pay him handsomely. The only way Vanden Bosch would return to the Titans is if he strikes out in free agency. However, there are teams who appear to be interested in Vanden Bosch, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions.
