Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings DL Jared Allen isn't going to participate in the team's non-mandatory offseason workout program, which begins Monday, April 6. However, after taking February off, Allen has started working out on his own. When he was in Dubai for his USO trip this offseason, Allen had his trainer join him, and he often ran two or three miles, jumped a lot of rope and used natural weights. He has also turned the garage of his Arizona home into a gym and plans to work out there.

Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen said the reason he had only two sacks in the first five games this season was because he had to adjust to some things. "[For] me personally, it took a little while getting used to adjusting to a new stadium, new bunch of teammates," Allen said. "The biggest adjustment was learning how to play with two beasts [DT Kevin Williams and DT Pat Williams] in the defensive tackles inside. I was just trying to stay out of the way for the first few weeks. Then we got on the same page and things took off." He finished the season with a team-high 14.5 sacks.

However, Allen added they will have a hard time convincing him he won't be ready. "It's almost an impossible task," Allen said. "But I have a lot of respect for those guys, so I do listen to their opinion. Sometimes you have to get an outside view."

He was fined $50,000 for a pair of hits on Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub and was flagged again for unnecessary roughness on a helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers in the team's Week 10 game. "I really hope they can see that I'm not malicious and would never intentionally injure another NFL player. I'm old school. I have respect for everyone in this game whether you are on my team or not," Allen said.

Allen said the swelling had gone down in his shoulder and the pain was tolerable when he woke up Sunday, Nov. 9. He said he didn't know whether he would be able to play until then. Allen said adrenaline and pain-killing injections helped mask the pain. He had a sack/safety and one quarterback hurry during the game.

Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said the team will send the NFL a tape of three plays from their Week 9 game because they questioned the hits by the Minnesota Viking players, including one play involving Vikings DL Jared Allen going low on Texans QB Matt Schaub. "Obviously it's illegal to go low on the quarterback and we have three plays that we're going to turn into the league and we'll wait to hear back," Kubiak said. "But he definitely was down there low and Matt took some tough shots."
