Vikings | Allen won't participate in non-mandatory workouts
Fri, 03 Apr 2009 07:35:48 -0700 Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings DL Jared Allen isn't going to participate in the team's non-mandatory offseason workout program, which begins Monday, April 6. However, after taking February off, Allen has started working out on his own. When he was in Dubai for his USO trip this offseason, Allen had his trainer join him, and he often ran two or three miles, jumped a lot of rope and used natural weights. He has also turned the garage of his Arizona home into a gym and plans to work out there.

"[For] me personally, it took a little while getting used to adjusting to a new stadium, new bunch of teammates," Allen said. "The biggest adjustment was learning how to play with two beasts [DT Kevin Williams and DT Pat Williams] in the defensive tackles inside. I was just trying to stay out of the way for the first few weeks. Then we got on the same page and things took off." He finished the season with a team-high 14.5 sacks.
