Patriots | Coming Up Short At TE?

Sun, 29 Apr 2001 00:11:24 -0700

Michael Felger reports for the Boston Herald it appears the New England Patriots could be left with a need at TE heading into training camp. The two TEs they drafted, Jabari Holloway and Arther Love, so far are exactly as advertised: good size; good potential; rough around the edges. "We know where they are. How they fit in is the question," said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. The team has looked at numerous free agents, but most have signed elsewhere. That leaves the two rookie tight ends plus holdover TEs Rod Rutledge, Jermaine Wiggins and Chris Eitzmann on the roster.

Undrafted free agent DL Jeff Dyra is in for a tryout this weekend. Coach Bill Belichick ran an afternoon practice that focused mostly on individual work. Top draft pick DL Richard Seymour did mostly technique and agility work, but he showed quickness during the punt drills. Rookie PK Owen Pochman had impressive distance. He made field goals from 30, 43, 48 and 48 yards out. Rookie TE Jabari Holloway showed decent hands, but average speed, while rookie TE Arther Love moved better, but struggled to hold on to passes.
