Mariners | Norichika Aoki takes a seat

Sun, 01 May 2016 12:22:59 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Norichika Aoki is not in the lineup on Sunday, May 01, against Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy. SS Ketel Marte will replace Aoki atop the order, while OF Seth Smith will take his spot in left field. 2B Robinson Cano will fill the designated hitter role for the first time this season, while 2B Luis Sardinas will get a rare start at second base.

Fantasy Tip: Cano has started out slowly for the second straight season in terms of batting average (.226), but his power (eight homers, 24 RBI) is carrying fantasy owners at the moment. Conversely, Aoki has struggled mightily in his first season with Seattle and can be ignored in most formats until he is able to get his batting average more than 10 or so points above the Mendoza line.

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano homered and drove in six runs Tuesday, April 26, which gave him 1,000 career RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Cano now has a .250-2-11 line the last seven days and should be a daily consideration at second.

Mariners | Robinson Cano has big day Wednesday

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 14:58:48 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano launched two home runs Wednesday, April 6, against the Texas Rangers. He finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI. He also doubled and drew a walk.

Fantasy Tip: Cano is picking up right where he left off from a tremendous second half last season, as he's played like an early MVP candidate through the first three games. He now has four homers and seven RBI on the year, while hitting third for what has been a pretty good offense thus far. He should continue to perform like a top-flight second baseman.

Mariners | Robinson Cano goes off Sunday

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 20:13:29 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano hit three home runs and drove in seven runs in a Cactus League game against the Chicago Cubs Sunday, March 27. He finished the game 4-for-4. Cano, who battled several ailments in 2015, said he feels different and is able to use his hips more now.

Fantasy Tip: It's just a spring training game, but this is impressive. Hopefully for Cano owners he can carry this momentum into the regular season. Now that he appears fully healthy, you should have no worries valuing him in the top tier of second basemen.

Mariners | Robinson Cano feeling much improved

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 06:58:03 -0800

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano said he is feeling "way, way better" this spring following his double hernia surgery during the offseason. "Last year I wasn't able to use my hips the way I'm using them right now. I watched some video when I was home. I'm moving really good compared to the way I was last year. This is a lot better."

Fantasy Tip: Cano posted a .328 batting average with 10 home runs and 37 RBI over 58 games after returning to the lineup following an abdominal strain last year, and he also had a .377 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage during the span. He is a top-tier option at the keystone, and he'll likely present more discount on draft day than in recent years. 2016 is a nice buy-low spot.

Mariners | Robinson Cano finished strong

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 10:23:39 -0800

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano hit .328 with 10 home runs and 37 RBI in 58 games after returning to the lineup following an abdominal strain last year, and he also had a .377 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage in that span. That was after starting the year hitting just .236 through June 16 with a .277 on-base percentage and a .323 slugging percentage.

Fantasy Tip: Cano's strong second half shows us that he's still an elite fantasy second base option, and he could be undervalued in the early rounds this year.

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 07:47:12 -0800

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano (abdomen) said Thursday, Feb. 25, he's about 98% after double hernia surgery in October.

Mariners | Robinson Cano happy in Seattle

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 18:53:47 -0800

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano and his representative refuted a report the player is unhappy in Seattle. General manager Jerry Dipoto said Monday, Nov. 23, that Cano's agent called him and said that the comments weren't from Robinson.

Fantasy Tip: Winning cures everything, and if Cano really is unhappy, perhaps that will solve things. He posted 21 homers in 2015, which was nice, but he also struck out a career-high 107 times while his average tumbled to .287, lowest since 2008. Cano's 79 RBI were also his lowest since 2008.
