Blue Jays | Casey Janssen the interim closer

Wed, 09 May 2012 11:19:46 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Casey Janssen will take over as the interim closer until RP Sergio Santos (shoulder) returns from the disabled list. RPs Jason Frasor, Darren Oliver and Luis Perez will serve in middle relief, and RP Francisco Cordero will fill in where needed.

Fantasy Tip: Janssen should be added in the short term if you're hurting for saves at this juncture, but keep in mind that Santos will probably be back in another two to three weeks - he resumed throwing yesterday - unless he suffers a setback. Cordero can safely be dropped in most leagues.

Blue Jays | Brett Lawrie coming up

Thu, 04 Aug 2011 13:13:21 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays recalled 3B Brett Lawrie from Triple-A Las Vegas Thursday, Aug. 4. In other moves, the team recalled P Luis Perez, optioned OF Travis Snider to Las Vegas and placed SP Carlos Villanueva (arm) on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Finally. If someone in your league isn't already stashing Lowrie, pick him up. It's not guaranteed that his Pacific Coast League-inflated line (.352/.416/.666) will translate usefully to the bigs. The type of impact that he can make (18 homers, 12 steals in 68 games for Las Vegas) at either a middle- or corner-infield spot (he may be eligible at second, third or both in your league now or at some point) makes him worth the gamble, however.
