Rangers | Robinson Chirinos has plate in forearm

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 14:39:56 -0700

Texas Rangers C Robinson Chirinos (forearm) had a plate put into his right forearm to held aid in the healing of his fractured bone.

Fantasy Tip: Chirinos, who was a second catcher in two-catcher or AL-only leagues at best, is slated to be out 10 to 12 weeks, so you should consider dropping him in favor of another backstop. Bryan Holaday and Brett Nicholas will share the catching duties in the meantime in Texas, but neither is very attractive to fantasy owners aside from the deepest two-catcher leagues.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo, Robinson Chirinos to DL

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 11:27:13 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (calf) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, April 10, because of a calf injury. C Robinson Chirinos (forearm) was placed on the 60-day disabled list because of a broken forearm.

Fantasy Tip: Nomar Mazara and Bryan Holaday will see the biggest boosts in value because of the injuries. Both players should be added in all AL-only leagues, but Mazara is probably the more attractive option for mixed league owners since he should be in the lineup most of the time. Holaday could be an option for mixed league owners that start two catchers.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos out 10-12 weeks

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 10:55:35 -0700

Texas Rangers C Robinson Chirinos (forearm) will be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks because of a broken forearm.

Fantasy Tip: Bryan Holaday likely will receive most of the starts at catcher while Chirinos is sidelined. Owners in AL-only leagues should look to add Holaday if he is available since he will see plenty of plate appearances. Holaday probably will have limited value in mixed leagues but could be added by owners that start two catchers.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos remains the starter

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 09:48:38 -0700

Texas Rangers C Robinson Chirinos remains the starting catcher after the team added C Bryan Holaday, according to manager Jeff Banister.

Fantasy Tip: Chirinos hit 10 homers last season, but that's about all that he did fantasy-wise. He's an AL-only second catcher.

Rangers | Bryan Holaday acquire to back up

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 21:26:26 -0700

Texas Rangers C Bryan Holaday was acquired from the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, March 29, to serve as the backup behind C Robinson Chirinos.

Fantasy Tip: The Rangers want to limit Chirinos to 70-80 games, so Holaday could see plenty of time in Arlington. However, he is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only fantasy play as a No. 2 catcher or utility option.

Rangers | Chris Gimenez nursing ankle injury

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 12:08:52 -0700

Texas Rangers C Chris Gimenez (ankle) has an infection in his left ankle and might not be ready to play by opening day. He is resuming baseball activities Tuesday, March 29, though. If Gimenez is not ready to start the season, Cs Bobby Wilson or Michael McKenry will back up starting C Robinson Chirinos.

Fantasy Tip: Gimenez is nothing more than a low-end backstop in cavernous mixed, AL-only and two-catcher formats, so the potential of missing a few games to start the season doesn't have a significant fantasy impact. Wilson or McKenry would have fleeting value in those deeper leagues, if they break camp as the backup catcher.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos to stay at No. 1

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 04:53:12 -0700

Texas Rangers C Robinson Chirinos will start the season as the top catcher on the roster, as the team has backed off acquiring a veteran at this time.

Fantasy Tip: Chirinos (.232-10-34 in 78 games) needs to increase his batting average if he hopes to have long-term success in Texas, but he projects to 20 homers a season so the team will take the power. He should be a backup catcher on your fantasy roster or maybe even a C3 if you choose to carry three catchers.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos to have company?

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 23:43:48 -0700

The Texas Rangers are happy with C Robinson Chirinos behind the plate, but they're exploring adding another catch for depth. The team is investigating San Diego Padres C Derek Norris, and if they were able to add him they could keep Chirinos at the 70-80 game range.

Fantasy Tip: Chirinos is a decent AL-only fantasy option, but make sure to have plenty of depth in case the team adds a quality backup to curb his playing time.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos bypasses arbitration

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 09:39:12 -0800

Texas Rangers C Robinson Chirinos avoided arbitration by signing a one-year deal Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Chirinos had a .232-10-34 line in platoon duty last season, but his fantasy prospects lean more to depth than starting.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos starts again

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 09:18:38 -0700

Texas Rangers C Robinson Chirinos (shoulder) made his second straight start Thursday, Oct. 1, for the first time since late July.

Fantasy Tip: Chirinos ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has hit well since his return from the DL, going 3-for-8 (.375) with a home run and one run driven in. The Rangers are trying to get him back up to full speed for the playoffs next week, and he can be a nice value pick at catcher if he's in the lineup to close out the regular season.
