San Diego Chargers PK Nick Novak might have kicked himself out of a job down the stretch, missing six of his final 16 field goal attempts. PK Nate Kaeding (knee) is expecting to resume his old job once he is healthy.

Chargers | Not willing to have two kickers on roster in 2012

The San Diego Chargers have both PKs Nate Kaeding (knee) and Nick Novak under contract through 2012, but the team is unwilling to roster both during the season, according to team sources. Kaeding is ahead of schedule in his recovery, and he said last week that he expects to resume kicking field goals again late in January. Kaeding said he doesn't anticipate camp competition, but that's exactly what might happen with the two.

San Diego Chargers PKs Nate Kaeding and Nick Novak are expected to compete for the placekicking job during training camp since both are under contract for next season. It is believed Kaeding thinks he should get his job back after missing most of the season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

San Diego Chargers PK Nick Novak has made all six of his field goal attempts since signing with the team to replace the injured PK Nate Kaeding (knee). "I feel like I've prepared to kick well for the last three years," Novak said. "I just think it was a maturation process and I just really, feels great now to kind of actualize my dream and to be successful and I think the root of that is my preparation in practice and my preparation before I got the job, just trying to stay ready."
