Jeff Duncan reports for The Sporting News the New Orleans Saints will now be able to focus on other areas than wide receiver in the NFL Draft because of the signing of free agent Albert Connell (Redskins). The team may still add another WR in the draft, but they won't have to look for one with their first-round pick. S, LB, FB, RB, DT and TE remain areas the team would like to improve at. The team is likely to retain either safeties Rob Kelly or Darren Perry, who are both free agents. The team also needs a new kicker, but aren't looking at it as a high priority.

According to Jeff Duncan of the Sporting News the New Orleans Saints would like to land another big-play WR via the NFL Draft since the free agent pool at WR is shallow. There other priorities are safety and fullback, while depth at defensive tackle and tight end are possibilities. One free agent who could attract interest from the team is Dallas WR James McKnight. He played under GM Randy Mueller when they were both in Seattle. Mueller liked Jay Bellamy while in Seattle and might try to bring him to New Orleans. The team may wave farewell to some of their own free agents including, CB Alex Molden, S Rob Kelly, DL Jared Tomich, RB Terry Allen, FB Brian Milne, DB Chris Canty and QB Billy Joe Tolliver. WR Jake Reed, about to be released may be back at a cheaper salary, but TE Andrew Glover is not expected back.
