The Rocky Mountain News reports Denver Broncos WR Kevin Kasper (ankle) is expected to miss 3-6 weeks of action with a severe ankle sprain. The team replaced him with Travis McGriff on multiple receiver sets on Sunday and will have Chris Cole replace him on kickoff return teams. Kasper had entered yesterday's game leading the AFC with a 30.9-yard average on kick returns.

Barney Hutchinson reports for the Daily Camera Denver Broncos QB Brian Griese has asked WRs Eddie Kennison, Travis McGriff and Kevin Kasper along with TEs Dwayne Carswell and Desmond Clark to step up their games. "These guys have to step us," Griese said. "I don't think they are comfortable now in the schemes. Kennison is making strides and will make plays for us down the road. I think Clark is going to be a big factor down the road, as well as Carswell. I think those guys have to step up for us to be successful." The team needs a contribution from a WR not named Rod Smith. Kasper, a special teams guy, must now step into a receiving role with increased playing time.

The Rocky Mountain News reports Denver Broncos QB Brian Griese sat out last night's 35-7 pre-season win. Backup Gus Frerotte had a solid outing. He completed his first 11 passes for 118 yards and finished 16 of 19 for 190 yards, and scrambled twice for 12 yards. WRs Chris Cole and Travis McGriff, who are fighting for the final receiving spot, both made nice catches, while Cole had a big tackle on special teams. RB Mike Anderson rushed 15 times for 61 yards and Olandis Gary nine times for 52 yards. Anderson had a TD and a fumble.

Lee Rasizer reports for the Rocky Mountain News that the Denver Broncos expect a battle for the No. 3 receiver this year. WR Eddie Kennison, who looked good during mini-camp, is currently the favorite to win the job. However, WRs Chris Cole, Travis McGriff, Muneer Moore, Scottie Montgomery, Chafie Fields and Kevin Kasper also want a shot at stepping up as the team's third wideout. Because WR Ed McCaffrey sat out of action, McGriff worked as a starter next to Rod Smith.

The Denver Post reports Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan stated the team has no plans to sign another QB even though Brian Griese's (shoulder) status remains up in the air for this weekend's game ... and the remainder of of the playoffs should the Broncos get past the Ravens. If Griese cannot play, Gus Frerotte (back/knee/elbow) would get the start and rookie Jarious Jackson would serve as his backup. WR Ed McCaffrey (knee), DT Trevor Pryce (bruised calf) and WR Travis McGriff (ankle) are all banged up, too, with McGriff being the most serious. He'll be re-evaluated later this week.

John Mossman reports for the Associated Press, the Denver Broncos are concerned about the health of quarterbacks Brian Griese and Gus Frerotte as they head into their first playoff game next week. As reported earlier, Griese reinjured his throwing shoulder and Frerotte bruised his lower back, left elbow and right knee. The Broncos were most concerned about Griese. WR Travis McGriff sprained his right ankle when he stepped on a coach's foot during pregame warmups. DT Trevor Pryce has a bruised right calf, and S George Coghill has a pinched nerve in his neck.

The Denver Post reports rookie Travis McGriff has decided to join the Denver Broncos for their rookie workouts even though his agent has advised him to stay home. McGriff has stated he's 100percent and ready to play football again. He'll be battling for a starting punt return job for the Broncos this year. He was the team's third-round draft selection but hasn't been signed yet.

Alex Marvez, of the Denver Rocky Mountain News, wrote rookie WR Travis McGriff lost 25 lbs. after coming down with mononucleosis (commonly known just as mono) and spending over a week in the hospital. McGriff is the only rookie of the Broncos that has yet met with them. The team has told him he can continue rehabilitation at his parents' home in Gainesville, FL. He has since gained 16 lbs. McGriff originally only weighed in at about 187 lbs. to start off with.
