Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Wednesday, May 1, that he expects DT Jay Ratliff to flourish in the team's new 4-3 defensive system. "We think he is very sound physically," Jones said. "He will flourish, I emphasize 'flourish', in this defensive scheme. He is a natural 3-technique. He is always highly-respected because he could play nose as well as he could with his forte being quickness, high agility, high motor. He is an integral part of what we're doing. And I think he's going to have an outstanding year."

Dallas Cowboys officials met with Mothers Against Drunk Driving representatives earlier this month after two players were involved in recent alcohol-related incidents that occurred in a span of 45 days. NT Joshua Brent flipped his car in an accident Dec. 8 which killed teammate LB Jerry Brown, and seven weeks later, Pro Bowl DL Jay Ratliff was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. "At the end of the day we're all accountable for our actions," owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. "We certainly have to get better as an organization."

If the Dallas Cowboys decide to cut Jay Ratliff because of his recent arrest would be a mistake, according to Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPNDallas.com. The only scenario that should see Ratliff get released, Taylor writes, is if the Cowboys find someone in free agency or the draft that can replace Ratliff's skill set.
