Reuben Frank, of phillyburbs.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Timmy Chang is strongly pressing QB Koy Detmer for the team's No. 3 quarterback slot. Chang didn't do much his first two preseason appearances, but Thursday night, Aug. 17, in Baltimore he showed some flashes. Although the final numbers weren't impressive, Chang was victimized by two drops, one of them negating a potential 25-yard gain. As bad as Detmer has been, his passer rating for the preseason is 25.0, Chang has a chance.

McNabb will play about 1 ½ quarters, along with the rest of the starters, Garcia will play about 1 ½ quarters with the second unit and Chang will lead the third unit for about one quarter. QB Koy Detmer has been given the game off and will play the team's following preseason game, with Garcia taking that game off.

Nick Fierro, of the Express-Times, reports the more Philadelphia Eagles P Dirk Johnson works as the holder with the first-team field goal unit, the more QB Timmy Chang has a chance of beating out veteran QB Koy Detmer for the No. 3 QB job. Detmer is an expert holder, often called the best in the game by PK David Akers and LS Mike Bartrum, but the Eagles obviously are preparing as if he might not be around.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg discussed QB Timmy Chang's progress with the team. "I think he's got something there. He really throws the football well. He's a tough guy; he's got a little juice to him. Again, he's just got a lot of learning to do like any new quarterback coming in. I think he is doing well. Especially, a young quarterback like he is, in this system in the NFL, you're going to make mistakes. It's almost [like] you can't get better without making mistakes. We understand that."

Jason Kaneshiro, of the Star Bulletin, reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Timmy Chang will soon resume his quest for a job in the NFL. Chang is among four quarterbacks currently on the Philadelphia roster and will head back to the mainland on July 20 for training camp. It'll be his second shot at earning a spot in the league after being cut during training camp last season. "I just don't take it for granted and make use of all the opportunities I get," he said. Chang is on a depth chart that includes QBs Donovan McNabb, Jeff Garcia and Koy Detmer. Chang said he's not focused on his status on the depth chart entering training camp. Chang has worked with trainer Chad Ikei to get in better shape. He has cut his body fat from 19 to nine percent.

Zach Berman, of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, reports while the Philadelphia Eagles are set at No. 1 and No. 2 on their quarterback depth chart, slots held by QBs Donovan McNabb and Jeff Garcia, respectively, there will be a battle for the No. 3 spot between QBs Koy Detmer and Timmy Chang. Detmer has the upper hand from the start since he is a 10-year veteran with knowledge of the system, but the team has made it clear that Chang will have the chance to unseat him.

Zach Berman, of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Timmy Chang is using training camp with the team to break the label of him being a 'system quarterback', someone who cannot perform outside of the pass-heavy offense he thrived in at the University of Hawaii. He played well in the NFL Europe recently, completing 57 percent of his passes, but still has much to prove. Even if he does not make the team, which is likely since the roster already includes QBs Donovan McNabb, Jeff Garcia and Koy Detmer, if he is able to grasp the team's intricate playbook, he can help to shake the label that has been placed on him.

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Timmy Chang has played well enough in NFL Europe to be given a shot to challenge for the team's No. 3 quarterback job in training camp. "We like him," Eagles general manager Tom Heckert said. "If he tones down his mistakes, I think he's got a chance. I really do. The kid has tons of records, and he's shown the ability to play. He has to do it at this level, but I think he's got a chance. He's not going to be just a camp body." Heckert said Chang should get a shot with the Eagles this summer. "Andy (Reid) always lets them play in the preseason, so that will be big for him," Heckert said. "I think he'll at least make somebody's practice squad." Chang, at 6-foot-1 and just over 200 pounds, knows he is considered small by today's NFL quarterback standards. He also knows that there is a belief that he cannot play in a conventional NFL offense after working exclusively from the shotgun at Hawaii. Heckert said it was Chang's competitiveness that impressed the Eagles as much as anything when he auditioned for them.

The Honolulu Advertiser reports Arizona Cardinals rookie QB Timmy Chang continues his progression in his attempt to win a roster spot with the Cardinals. Chang faces a long road to that roster spot. When asked if Chang was worthy of a spot, quarterbacks coach Mike Kruczek responded, "It's hard to say." "The next step is on Timmy — his retention on how much work he puts in during the summer, studying (the offense), then take that work that he did in June into training camp and when he gets into preseason games. And take advantage of the opportunities given in those games." Kruczek said he's been pleased with Chang's progress. Kruczek said he "would imagine" that Chang is battling for a practice squad spot with QB Chris Lewis, who is a backup in NFL Europe.

AZCardinals.com reports Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green is excited about the addition of undrafted free agent QB Timmy Chang. "Many times because of the style they play with a team, guys get kind of downgraded a little bit," Green said. "I think people though [Hawaii's] offense wouldn't suit the NFL so it was hard to project him, but I think he'll come in and have an excellent chance to compete."
