Fri, 30 Mar 2001 01:50:48 -0800

The Charlotte Observer reports agent Paul Sheehy has asked the Carolina Panthers to trade or release his client, P Ken Walter. Sheehy said Carolina's attempt to sign free agent P Kyle Richardson has made it clear Walter isn't in the team's future plans. If the Panthers release Walter, they would clear slightly more than $400,000 in salary cap space. At this point the team has had no comment. WR Isaac Byrd, who agreed to terms on Thursday, could be a candidate as a return man on special teams next season. The Panthers don't have a punt returner and kickoff returner Michael Bates is testing the free agent market.
