Angels | C.J. Wilson has decent rehab outing

Thu, 26 May 2016 18:12:20 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) allowed one run on five hits over four-plus innings in a rehab start for Class A Inland Empire Wednesday, May 25, with no walks and four strikeouts. He threw 35 of his 56 pitches for strikes and his fastball topped out at 90 mph.

Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain if Wilson's next start will come with Inland Empire or for Class AAA Salt Lake. If all goes well on his rehab assignment, he could be activated from the disabled list during the first two weeks of June. Wilson is only worth stashing in AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Angels | C.J. Wilson set for rehab stint

Sun, 22 May 2016 00:41:08 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) will make his first rehab start with Class A Inland Empire on Wednesday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson may need some time in the minors before being activated, and you might want to stay away until he proves himself. The Angels need pitching help, but whether it comes from Wilson right away remains to be seen.

Angels | C.J. Wilson throws Thursday

Thu, 12 May 2016 18:39:39 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) threw his third bullpen session in five days Thursday, May 12. He is slated to throw a simulated game Monday, May 16, and could return to the majors by the middle of next month if all goes well.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is only worthy of consideration for stashing in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues because of decreased velocity and low strikeout totals. The Halos are likely to be extremely cautious with the 35-year-old left-hander during the rehab process, given the shaky state of their starting rotation.

Angels | Two injured Halos throwing

Tue, 10 May 2016 16:28:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is throwing his second bullpen session in the last two days Tuesday, May 10, and RP Huston Street (oblique) is playing catch for the first time since going on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Both Wilson and Street are a ways off from returning, and the Angels are being cautious since they can't afford anymore setbacks to their pitching staff. Wilson should be given a spot in the rotation when he's ready, but his drop in velocity and inability to miss many bats the last two years keep his ceiling low in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. As long as Street is out, Joe Smith should see all of the save chances for the Angels. Keep Street stashed everywhere.

Angels | C.J. Wilson throws off mound

Sun, 08 May 2016 17:54:22 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) threw off the mound Sunday, May 8, for the first time since March, and although the session went well, manager Mike Scioscia said Wilson is a long way from returning.

Fantasy Tip: You can stash Wilson in AL-only leagues if you want, but don't count on him being much of a factor in 2016.

Angels | C.J. Wilson could return in June

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 17:46:23 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) hopes to return to the starting rotation in mid-June. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session May 9, and will toss a simulated game May 18, if all goes well. Wilson would then be in line to begin a rehab assignment May 23, and would probably need at least four starts before being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson has been throwing for several weeks on flat ground using an altered delivery designed to prevent him from re-injuring his shoulder. The 35-year-old southpaw could be worth stashing in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Angels | C.J. Wilson throws Friday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 17:03:38 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) threw from a distance of 90 feet on flat ground Friday, April 22. Manager Mike Scioscia said Wilson will not be ready to resume throwing off a mound until he is making throws from a distance of 130 feet.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson should only be considered for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues when he is able to return to action. The 35-year-old lefty went 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts in 2015.

Angels | C.J. Wilson advances to 90 feet

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 22:09:34 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is playing catch at 90 feet but isn't close to throwing off a mound.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is worth stashing in AL-only leagues and maybe deeper mixed leagues. He's 35 years old, so temper your expectations on what you get when he returns.

Angels | C.J. Wilson still has a long road ahead

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 15:28:46 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is throwing this week but has still not moved beyond 60 feet. He still has a long way to go in his recovery.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Wilson is as close to a fantasy afterthought as there is. He has already discussed converting to a reliever, and he is nowhere near returning to the Angels. Perhaps, he is a stash candidate in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but Wilson shouldn't be a roster priority.

Angels | C.J. Wilson to drop arm slot

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 10:37:17 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder), who is dealing with shoulder tendinitis, will drop his arm slot when he resumes throwing. Wilson said he thinks he'll need "at least" a month to prepare himself to pitch in major league games. Wilson is now doing shoulder exercises six days a week.

Fantasy Tip: Although it's unlikely to happen, Wilson is willing to pitch out of the bullpen when he returns, if necessary. There's no guarantee a lower arm slot will help Wilson become less hittable. His control is his best asset, but he doesn't miss enough bats these days to be considered for mixed leagues.
