Angels | Several teams interested in C.J. Wilson

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 07:17:32 -0800

Multiple teams have reportedly expressed interest in trading for Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson. However, no deal appears imminent.

Fantasy Tip: The Halos have not been impressed with any of the proposals for Wilson, who went 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA over 21 starts in 2015 and has a contract which would make him difficult to move. The 35-year-old left-hander's season was cut short due to surgery to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow but he is expected to be ready for the start of spring training. Wilson could fall to the later rounds of drafts for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues due to his recent injury history.

Angels | C.J. Wilson may not be tradeable

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 13:39:24 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson is the subject of trade discussions, but the Angels want teams to eat at least $15 million of Wilson's contract and some teams may find that too much.

Fantasy Tip: This is other teams' way of telling the Angels you paid too much for Wilson. That may make his market tough. With an 8-8 record and only 110 strikeouts to Wilson's credit, he may last until later rounds in some drafts.

Angels | C.J. Wilson on the trade block

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 14:06:19 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson is available in the trade market to clear up money to fill other club needs, the Angels said Monday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Over the past two seasons, Wilson owns a 21-18 record with a 4.24 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP and a 7.6 K/9. Those numbers don't pay the fantasy bills in the majority of formats, so Wilson should be reserved for cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues entering the 2016 season.

Angels | C.J. Wilson showing improvement

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 21:18:47 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (elbow) is just two weeks removed from elbow surgery and can already see a noticeable difference in his range of motion. He is planning to be at 100 percent by the start of spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson finished the 2015 season with an 8-8 mark and 3.89 ERA in 21 starts with 110 strikeouts over 132 innings with a 1.24 WHIP.

Angels | C.J. Wilson elects to have surgery

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 15:05:15 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (elbow) will have season-ending cleanup surgery on his elbow. He is expected to be ready for spring training next year.

Fantasy Tip: You can safely drop Wilson in all single-year formats now. That means that promising youngster Andrew Heaney ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) should remain in the rotation for the rest of the season. He has been very useful to fantasy owners and has shown no signs of slowing down. Heaney should be owned in all leagues.

Angels | C.J. Wilson seeking second opinion

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 11:27:32 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (elbow) will seek a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache around Aug. 11, but Wilson is leaning toward having season-ending surgery to have eight bone spurs removed from his left elbow. The Angels have approached Wilson to see if he'd like to delay the surgery until the offseason to help the team out of the bullpen. "This is going to be driven by the medical staff," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Whatever decision the medical staff makes, with the doctors, with C.J., is really the direction that this will go. It has nothing to do with what our preference is. It's about, and always will be about, the health of the player." It's a long shot that Wilson will pitch again this year.

Fantasy Tip: It would make sense to hold onto Wilson ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) in single-universe leagues if you have the room. In mixed leagues, however, we wouldn't blame you for dropping him now, since the chances of him making any kind of fantasy impact down the stretch are remote.

Angels | C.J. Wilson out for season?

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 11:05:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, MRI results for Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (elbow) show a left elbow impingement secondary to arthritis. He is expected to undergo surgery to clean out bone spurs from his elbow which have caused diminished range of motion and increased risk of shoulder injury. The procedure could end his season prematurely but Wilson expects to be able to pitch effectively in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson's ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) injury means that Matt Shoemaker ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is likely to retain his spot in the Angels' starting rotation after Jered Weaver (hip) is activated from the disabled list. He went 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts this season, with his lowest WHIP (1.242) since 2011. He can be dropped in redraft leagues.

Angels | C.J. Wilson lands on disabled list

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 14:00:51 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (elbow) was placed on the disabled list with inflammation in his left elbow Friday, July 31. In a corresponding move, the Angels recalled SP Drew Rucinski from Class AAA Salt Lake.

Fantasy Tip: Check back for an update on whether Rucinski will start. It seems unlikely because he has really struggled with Salt Lake and the Angels. Plus, Jered Weaver ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is returning from a hip injury soon, so he could rejoin the rotation in Wilson's spot. Stay tuned for further updates on the severity of Wilson's injury and how long he projects to be out, too.

Angels | C.J. Wilson strike outs nine

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 18:18:56 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson struck out a season-high nine and allowed one run on eight hits over eight innings in a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) has allowed just one run over 15 innings in his last two starts, and he has struck out seven or more in five straight. For the price, he offers decent upside at FantasyScore, especially if his strikeout totals remain strong.

Angels | C.J. Wilson not good under sun

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 19:11:57 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson is scheduled to face the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday, June 17 in the afternoon series finale. Wilson is 0-2 with an 8.15 ERA in three day games as opposed to a 4-3 record with a 2.41 ERA in 10 outings at night.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson ($5,200; or 10.4% of cap) is 1-3 with a 3.86 ERA in six road outings, and he stinks in day games. That makes him a very risky play for FantasyScore owners, so it might be best to go another way.
