Dodgers | Mark Ellis testing quad

Tue, 14 May 2013 15:31:04 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis (quadriceps) is testing his quadriceps by running the bases before the game Tuesday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Nick Punto and Skip Schumaker to continue filling in at the keystone with Ellis out. There is no timetable for Ellis to return, but once he does, he should be a nice BA aid in deep mixed leagues for your middle infield spot.

Dodgers | Mark Ellis to DL

Mon, 06 May 2013 16:15:39 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers will place 2B Mark Ellis (quadriceps) on the 15-day disabled list Monday, May 6, to make room on the roster for SP Chris Capuano (calf), who is being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Nick Punto and Skip Schumaker will likely continue to split time at the keystone with Ellis moving to the disabled list. Neither option is valuable beyond NL-only leagues, however.

Dodgers | Mark Ellis working out, Carl Crawford not

Fri, 03 May 2013 14:11:09 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis (quadriceps) is taking batting practice Friday, May 3, but OF Carl Crawford (hamstring) isn't, and he hasn't taken fly balls in the outfield since hurting his leg.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford has developed a reputation as a slow healer and a player that is often injured. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Dodgers place him on the disabled list, so make plans in case that happens. Skip Schumaker and Jerry Hairston Jr. can both play left field if Crawford is out for extended time.

Dodgers | Matt Kemp gets day off

Wed, 17 Apr 2013 16:17:38 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (rest) is getting a day off Wednesday, April 17. 2B/OF Skip Schumaker draws into the lineup, and he starts in center field.

Fantasy Tip: Set your daily lineups accordingly. Kemp is expected to be back in the lineup for the interleague series opener Friday on the road against the Baltimore Orioles.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford has nerve irritation

Fri, 01 Mar 2013 11:50:38 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (elbow) is dealing with "minor nerve irritation" that he developed from increased intensity during live batting practice. The team maintains that irritation isn't uncommon for someone coming off Tommy John surgery, and his elbow ligament isn't involved. "There doesn't seem to be any panic," said manager Don Mattingly. "We're still being cautious. I look at this as more of a setback than I did the last couple of days. He can't throw and hit. He can still track (pitches), do baserunning, fly balls. He can still do work. But this pushes it back a bit." OFs Skip Schumaker and Jerry Hairston Jr. figure to see more time in the outfield as a result, and the Dodgers are leaning toward keeping OF Alex Castellanos as a backup plan.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford working out

Tue, 12 Feb 2013 17:19:43 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (elbow) is throwing up to 90 feet, hitting off a tee and hopes to move to live pitching in the next few days. Crawford is "confident" he'll be ready for opening day, depending on what the Dodgers "want to see." "I think I can hit the cutoff man, but I don't know if that's where they want me to come back," he said. "I think I'm an everyday guy, but I understand the thought of easing me back in." He has no pain in his elbow other than "just typical muscle fatigue," and his arthritic wrist isn't giving him problems, either. Manager Don Mattingly is prepared to use OFs Jerry Hairston Jr. and Skip Schumaker in a platoon in left field to start the year rather than rush Crawford. When Crawford is playing, he's most likely to hit leadoff.

Dodgers | Several options to bat leadoff

Fri, 11 Jan 2013 21:06:12 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has floated the idea to OF Carl Crawford about batting leadoff, but the skipper also said 2B Mark Ellis, 3B Nick Punto and 2B Skip Schumaker will be looked at as potential leadoff men. "The leadoff's the one spot I wrestle with a little bit, not having that true leadoff guy," Mattingly said.
