Blue Jays | Russell Martin back in lineup Sunday

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 10:10:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is back in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Sunday, June 26. In addition, OF Junior Lake is batting eighth and playing right field, while INF Darwin Barney is batting ninth and playing shortstop. SS Troy Tulowitzki will bat sixth and serve as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is batting .264 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 53 at-bats this month and makes a viable catching option today. Barney has cooled off at the plate following a hot start and is hitting .250 through 60 at-bats in June. Lake has only had two at-bats since joining the Jays and should be strictly viewed as desperation salary cap relief.

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Saturday, June 25. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer in a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is batting .280 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 50 at-bats during the month of June, following an atrocious start to the 2016 season. He should be viewed as a viable catching option in all fantasy formats.

Blue Jays | Devon Travis, Josh Thole starting

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 10:05:23 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Devon Travis is in the starting lineup versus Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo Saturday, June 18, batting eighth. In addition, C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and batting ninth, with C Russell Martin receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Travis has been playing better recently following a slow start to the 2016 season. He is 8-for-20 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI over the past week and warrants consideration for daily fantasy lineups. Thole is batting just .105 through 57 at-bats and should be avoided in all formats.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin sitting vs. Phillies

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 12:54:36 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 13. C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff Monday.

Fantasy Tip: After a slow start, Martin has 11 runs, five home runs, 13 RBI and a respectable .266/.359/.468 slash line. With his slump in the rear-view mirror, Martin is back to being a viable catching option in all leagues. Thole is 6-for-52 this season, and he shouldn't be considered for any fantasy formats Monday or going forward.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin goes deep

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 13:55:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and scored twice on Sunday, June 12, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Martin's .208 average and five home runs looks paltry at first glance, but owners need to consider he was batting .172 with no homers on May 24. Since then, he has been the top-10 fantasy catcher he was drafted to be, batting .294 with 13 RBI and 10 runs scored. Martin should be trusted once again and needs to be locked into lineups as Toronto begins a four-game, home-and-home set with the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin, Devon Travis playing

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 08:25:16 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin and 2B Devon Travis are back in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez Sunday, June 12. In addition, INF Darwin Barney will bat ninth and play third base, while 3B Josh Donaldson serves as the designated hitter. 1B Justin Smoak is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is batting .254 with four home runs and 10 RBI over the past four weeks after a horrendous start and has gotten his average for the season above the Mendoza line (.204). Travis is just 3-for-33 (.091) over the past two weeks and should be avoided in DFS for now. Barney is batting .320 this year over 42 games, including a .408 mark at Rogers Centre, and makes an excellent source of salary cap relief.

Blue Jays | Two sitting for Toronto

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 09:32:16 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin and 2B Devon Travis is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright Saturday, June 11. 2B Darwin Barney will start at second base, while 2B Ryan Goins will start at shortstop and is batting eighth. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Goins is hitting only .163 in limited playing time this season and is not a strong fantasy option. Thole has also struggled at the plate in 2016 and can be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Blue Jays | Three Blue Jays take a seat

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 08:15:23 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin, OF Michael Saunders and 2B Devon Travis are out of the lineup Wednesday, June 8. OF Kevin Pillar moved up to hit fifth, OF Ezequiel Carrera is hitting sixth, SS Ryan Goins hits eighth and C Josh Thole is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Pillar has pedestrian numbers, but he has the most daily appeal behind Joey Bats, Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion and Justin Smoak. Give Pillar a low-end look. Carrera has some fringe basement appeal as well. Pass on Goins and Thole against Jordan Zimmermann.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson receiving day off

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 10:55:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Saturday, June 4. INF Darwin Barney will bat eighth and play the hot corner, while INF Ryan Goins will start at shortstop and bat ninth. In addition, C Russell Martin is back in the lineup as the No. 6 hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Donaldson is probably receiving an off day because the club is facing a knuckleballer, so he should be removed from all fantasy lineups. Barney is batting .314 over the last four weeks and .386 versus righties, making him a productive source of cap relief in DFS. Martin has also played better recently, going 8-for-33 with a double, three home runs and six RBI over the last two weeks. Goins can be avoided in all fantasy formats this afternoon.
