Blue Jays | Russell Martin not a DL candidate

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 12:08:09 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) isn't a serious candidate to be put on the disabled list, according to a source. He's dealing with neck spasms and has an OPS of only .383.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has only eight hits in 56 at-bats (.143) with no home runs and four RBI in his first 18 games. His neck woes are likely a factor in his slow start, and he can't be trusted in any fantasy format right now. Keep him benched in deep mixed and AL-only leagues and look for better options elsewhere.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin back in there

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 12:43:36 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) is back in the starting lineup and is batting seventh against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Wednesday, April 27.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is hitting only .154 (8-for-52) with no home runs and four RBI in the early going, so you may want to keep him benched until he shows some signs of life at the plate.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin out Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 13:22:39 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) is out once again Tuesday, April 26, against the Chicago White Sox. C Josh Thole is hitting ninth against White Sox SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: This is Martin's third straight absence. Daily league owners have an advantage because they can find out whether or not Martin will play. It isn't likely a major issue, but the team doesn't want it to turn into anything serious. Thole has a .308 (4-for-13) average in the last week and is a decent substitute in daily contests.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin remains out

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 12:42:48 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Monday, April 25. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Thole has gone 3-for-18 this season and has not picked up a RBI since his first start. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better players to use in their lineups.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin bothered by neck spasms

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 19:14:07 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) left the game as a precautionary measure Friday, April 22, against the Oakland Athletics, after being bothered by neck spasms.

Fantasy Tip: Martin should be considered day-to-day since the injury does not appear to be serious. He was 6-for-46 with three RBI entering play Friday and should be avoided in daily fantasy contests during the midst of this cold stretch at the plate.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin resting

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 12:41:58 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 20. C Josh Thole is the catcher and is batting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez.

Fantasy Tip: Thole has become knuckleballer R.A. Dickey's personal catcher, so there is nothing to be alarmed over here. Thole has only one hit in his nine at-bats this year, although that one hit was a home run. Still, Thole has no upside whatsoever at the plate and should be passed over in daily formats.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin has two hits, two RBI

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 14:36:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin went 2-for-4 with two RBI Monday, April 18, against the Boston Red Sox. They were his second and third runs batted in on the year.

Fantasy Tip: This was a very crucial performance for the veteran catcher, who entered today's contest with a .108 batting average. In the process, he also registered his first multi-hit effort of the campaign, while also tripling his season RBI total to three. Despite his early struggles, owners shouldn't give up on Martin just yet, especially while he bats for the most potent offense in baseball.

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 11:53:09 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin will bat seventh and start behind the plate against Boston Red Sox SP David Price Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has collected just two hits in his first 30 at-bats this season and is 4-for-22 versus Price in his career. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats for now.
