Fri, 22 Mar 2013 14:54:08 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar is expected to start the year hitting second in the lineup behind OF Mike Trout and in front of 1B Albert Pujols. Aybar has hit second in back-to-back days, and manager Mike Scioscia said Aybar will get the "first crack" at the spot. 2B Howard Kendrick and 3B Alberto Callaspo are other options. Kendrick is expected to hit sixth and Callaspo seventh.
Fantasy Tip: A very mediocre plate approach limits his on-base productivity and stolen base opportunities, but hitting second in this lineup should only help. He remains a nice middle infield target in mixed leagues.
Wed, 06 Mar 2013 16:52:02 -0800 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Howard Kendrick is hitting .533 with a 1.000 slugging percentage in his first four spring games. He is a candidate to hit second in the lineup this season after being much more successful in his career lower in the lineup. Tue, 19 Feb 2013 14:11:56 -0800 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Howard Kendrick is notorious for hitting better and producing better numbers when he hits sixth or seventh in the order compared to second or even fifth. He has a career slash line of .257/.294/.401 in 784 plate appearances in the No. 2 spot compared to .314/.352/.455 in 784 plate appearances hitting seventh. "You do have to be able to take pitches for other guys and move runners," Kendrick said. "It's not that I can't do that, but I like to be a little more aggressive and take what's given. Sometimes being in the two-spot, it might not be as beneficial. But that's part of the reason why I moved from there to like the six-hole or the five-hole. Which is fine, too. I'm never one to complain about where I hit. As long as I'm in the lineup and helping the team win, that's all I care about." Kendrick, 3B Alberto Callaspo and SS Erick Aybar will all see looks in the No. 2 spot this spring.
