"Things have not gone in the win column like I wanted them to or like any of us wanted them to. I know we let the fans down. They believed in us. "I think the effort was there," Gailey said. "I never question our guys' character or effort. I question our execution, but I don't question our effort. When you play bad it looks like you're not playing hard. But I don't think (effort) is ever the question." Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said the team has practiced outside once in each of the last two weeks, in hopes of what will be some cold and snowy December home games. The Bills, who play the St. Louis Rams in Week 14, are hoping to take advantage of teams not used to the colder temperatures. In Week 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo ran the football 46 times for 232 yards. "Especially in that running back room we feel like we can spark this offense and get us going. Hopefully we can do that, especially coming up in the month of December," RB Fred Jackson said. "It's going to be nasty out like that. We can take a lot of pressure off everybody on offense if we can go out and perform well."

I think he's doing some tremendous things for us. He's utilizing his skill players. We just have to be consistent, as those players." Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey will continue to handle playcalling duties despite WR Stevie Johnson lobbying for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to have a bigger role. Gailey said Fitzpatrick has some feedback on calls to a degree, but that role is not about to expand. "Sometimes he does. Sometimes he doesn't," Gailey said. "He can go out there and change some things. Depends on the situation and the play and what we are trying to do. And the thing that we are trying to do, sometimes, is run the football - we don't want to change it to a pass. Sometimes we change out of passes to runs, sometimes we change out of runs to passes, depends on what we get." When asked why Fitzpatrick wouldn't be allowed to alter any play he chooses on the field, Gailey cited pass protection schemes and the need to monitor the workload of certain players like RB C.J. Spiller. "There is a lot more to it than just seeing what they do and just callin' a play, there is a bigger picture here ... You are setting up the next play for the next play," Gailey said. "Fitz is good, he is smart, he really is, he is extremely smart and can make adjustments on the field ... but we're doing things today, just like we did them last year and the year before that."

"I hope I can put that to rest," Nix said. "It's the age-old thing, and they've done it around here for years. They start over about every three years. What that does is make damn sure that you don't make it. That's what it does."

You reevaluate everything. You look at it. What is good you try to keep. What is bad and needs work you try to see what you have to do to get it done. That is what you do during the bye week. Buffalo Bills QB Tarvaris Jackson is expected to remain third on the depth chart the rest of this season. Head coach Chan Gailey does not envision Jackson challenging backup QB Tyler Thigpen. "It would be very tough for Tarvaris to challenge for that spot this year because of limited reps (in practice)," Gailey said. "Fitz takes almost every rep we have on offense during the course of the week. The backup gets very few reps through the course of practice. So it's hard for him to get the reps necessary to make a viable charge at this point for that position."

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said he does find himself leaning more toward running the football given the early season success RB C.J. Spiller has enjoyed, even though he will not abandon the pass. "We'd rather be a physical run team that throws it when we have to, or throws it on surprise situations," Gailey said. "So we'll continue to work down this path as much as we can." Spiller is leading the NFL in both yards rushing (292) and yards from scrimmage (364), while also being the NFL's only player to post two 100-yard games.

Spiller in the offense in 2011, according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com. Gailey said Spiller's rookie campaign did not go according to plan. "It didn't work out like everybody planned," Gailey said. "He planned. I planned. Any fan out there planned. It didn't work out like any of us planned. I still think he's going to be a very good to great player for the Buffalo Bills. There's no question in my mind about that. I think I'll do a better job this year of creating ways to move him more. When you're establishing what you're trying to get done offensively, you have a hard time deviating too much to do things for one guy to create things for one guy. We were in the process of evaluating everybody and trying to create things for everybody. It was a getting-to-know-you year."

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey does not believe the quarterback switch from QB Trent Edwards to QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is a big deal because there is not much of a difference between the two, according to Sal Maiorana, of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. "Back when we started this whole quarterback thing, we had to have a pecking order heading into training camp," Gailey said. "The margin of difference between (Edwards and Fitzpatrick) wasn't that big, and nobody did anything to change that margin in training camp. They all did a pretty good job when they played (in preseason games), so if it had been a huge difference in the two, it might have made a difference. But in our minds there wasn't, so give (Fitzpatrick) a shot to do what he can do."
