The Kansas City Royals added Ps John Lamb, Mike Montgomery, Chris Dwyer, Donnie Joseph, Justin Marks and Juan Gutierrez to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Nov. 20, in order to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft. As a result, Ps Vin Mazzaro, Chris Volstad and Ryan Verdugo, Cs Brayan Pena and Adam Moore, 1B Clint Robinson and OF Derrick Robinson were designated for assignment. Backup C Brett Hayes reached a one-year, $600,000 deal Tuesday.

Kansas City Royals P Juan Gutierrez was among five players re-signed to minor league contracts, the Royals announced on Thursday, Oct. 18. The others were C Max Ramirez, 1B Matt Fields, OF Nick Van Stratten and P Devon Lowery.

The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent RP Juan Gutierrez (Diamondbacks), RP Francisley Bueno (Braves), C Max Ramirez (Giants) and OF Greg Golson (Yankees) to minor league deals Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Updating previous reports, free-agent RP Juan Gutierrez (elbow, shoulder) said that he was not surprised that the Arizona Diamondbacks released him. Gutierrez, who battled elbow and shoulder problems at the end of last season and ultimately underwent Tommy John surgery, hopes to re-sign with Arizona on a minor league contract so that he can rehab with the team.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Juan Gutierrez (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery Sept. 6. He will likely miss most, if not all, of the 2012 season as well.
