San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, April 24. This will be Johnson's second ligament-replacement procedure.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson just can't stay healthy. He'll be lost for the rest of the year and at least the beginning of the 2014 season. This bodes well for Robbie Erlin sticking around in the rotation for the long term.

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will meet with Dr. James Andrews Tuesday, April 22, according to manager Bud Black. Andrews will check Johnson's ligaments, forearm flexor tendons and the back of his elbow.
Fantasy Tip: Many have likely moved on from Johnson at this point because of his injury history. If you're waiting, you'll have to wait a little longer. There looks like a decent chance he'll have to undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career.

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will visit with Dr. James Andrews.
Fantasy Tip: This sounds dubious for Johnson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. A visit to Andrews often times precludes Tommy John surgery. Stay tuned and make plans to replace Johnson on your roster if he receives bad news.

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will be re-evaluated this week. The team is concerned Johnson's injury is not getting any better.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners of Johnson need to be patient. It appears his recovery process is really slow, and he might be longer than originally anticipated. Stay tuned.

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will be sidelined at least a month to five weeks due to a flexor strain in his right forearm. He will start the regular season on the 15-day disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson can't seem to catch a break. He has plenty of talent, but his propensity for injury makes him a very risky fantasy selection. At this point, he is worth a flier in the later rounds of mixed leagues, but make sure to have plenty of depth on hand since he is pretty brittle.

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson is using his changeup more this spring. "That's probably the best my changeup has been since I was in the minor leagues," he said. "I've talked to (Hoffman) about his thinking with it and what he does; maybe something can click." Johnson has also worked with pitching coach Darren Balsley on a more downhill plane with good extension in his delivery. Johnson tossed two scoreless innings Monday, March 3, with two strikeouts.

The San Diego Padres are easing SP Josh Johnson in this spring. "He looked pretty good," said C Rene Rivera, who caught Johnson's first bullpen session Thursday, Feb. 13 -- 35 pitches consisting of only fastballs and changeups -- in Peoria. "He had good control, was spotting the fastball pretty well, the sinker and change were working."

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (elbow) said his elbow has felt great since October surgery, and he has already thrown three bullpen session. He is likely to have two more sessions before pitchers and catchers report to Arizona for the start of spring training Feb. 13. The team will allow Johnson to come along slowly, trying to keep him healthy through the spring. "I talked to (manager Bud Black) and he was saying you might not go (pitch) every other day and we're going to play it by ear and see how you're feeling," Johnson said.
