Tom Kowalski reports for Booth News Services, as an update to previous stories, the Detroit Lions are focused on signing free agent G Brenden Stai as a replacement for Jeff Hartings. Stai could be signed soon, possibly as soon as today. The Lions have also told C Eric Beverly they will match his offer sheet from Miami. Beverly is expected to start at center as free agent C Mike Compton will not return to Detroit. Miami attempted to put a "poison pill" in Beverly's contract that would've made it more difficult for the Lions to match the offer. Miami put "likely to be earned" incentives which would hit the Lions cap this season but the league ruled that if reached they would count towards next season's cap. If Stai signs, the left guard position is the only one that will need to be filled. Free agent Tre' Johnson remains a candidate for that job.
