Kevin Seifert, reports for the Sporting News, Minnesota Vikings DT Steve Martin may land a roster spot as a top reserve along the Vikings' defensive line. Martin has lost weight during the offseason in his attempt to show the coaching staff he deserves a roster spot. Martin can also contribute in goal line situations as well as provide a fresh, big body during key parts of the third and fourth quarters.

The New England Patriots and free agent DT Steve Martin (Jets) have agreed on a one-year deal worth about $1.75 million. There's mutual intention between Patriots and Martin's agent, Paul Sheehy, on working out a long-term deal before free agency begins next year. Patriots director of player personnel Scott Pioli was instrumental in getting the deal done. He put a lot of effort into the deal and because of him, there is a comfort level for Martin playing under a one-year deal while they work towards a long-term deal down the road.

The New York Jets have continued talks with DT Steve Martin's agent, Paul Sheehy, the past few weeks and negotiations are progressing but at a slow pace. "We anticipate the interest to be great from a number of teams once he hits the market on Friday," Sheehy said when reached by KFFL on Tuesday. He noted that Martin took almost 900 snaps last year and piled on 83 tackles, which are eye-popping numbers for a defensive lineman. "He's a difference-maker," Sheehy said. Martin is set to become an unrestricted free agent on Friday.
