The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings DL Steve Martin (ankle) left the team's preseason game Friday, Sept. 2, with a sprained left ankle. He was taken from the sideline to the locker room on a cart.

Kevin Seifert, reports for the Sporting News, Minnesota Vikings DT Steve Martin may land a roster spot as a top reserve along the Vikings' defensive line. Martin has lost weight during the offseason in his attempt to show the coaching staff he deserves a roster spot. Martin can also contribute in goal line situations as well as provide a fresh, big body during key parts of the third and fourth quarters.

The program is part of an ongoing NFL-NFLPA initiative to assist players in preparing for their post-playing careers.
