The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Atlanta Falcons WR Jeff Graham isn’t present this week at the team’s passing camp. The 12-year wide receiver is in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio tending to personal matters and the team hopes to see him at Thursday’s practice. Graham was named last month in a federal search warrant in connection with his sister's indictment on cocaine trafficking charges. It is not clear if that has anything to do with his absence. Graham is expected to compete with Shawn Jefferson and others at split end.

The Dayton Daily News reports federal agents suspect Atlanta Falcons WR Jeff Graham is involved in the purchase and distribution of cocaine. A search warrant lists 11 names, including Graham and his sister, Carolyn Graham. Jeff Graham's attorney said Friday he has not seen the search warrant but strongly denied Graham is involved in drugs. Graham has not been charged with a crime.

Jaguars WR Keenan McCardell appears to also be in their sights. He's expected to be released after June 1. His agent, Gary Uberstine, said he believes the Falcons interest in McCardell is valid.

WR Jeff Graham, who was released by the San Diego Chargers earlier this year, has filed a $10 million federal lawsuit alleging that he was the victim of racial profiling by a sheriff's deputy in Ohio. The suit is claiming that a deputy went onto Graham's property without a warrant, preceded to bang on Graham's truck window while he was on a mobile phone, placed Graham under arrest and then searched the truck without consent. A gun registered to Graham's father, Walter Jr., who had just passed away, was found in the car.

The team's official site reports San Diego Chargers starting C Roman Fortin returned to practice earlier today. Fortin previously had been forced to watch from the sidelines since the start of camp while rehabbing from off-season surgery on both knees. On Monday he only did light work. Fortin is a little ahead of schedule in his rehab. DL Adrian Dingle and Mike Pringley were able to return to the morning practice today. QB Dave Dickenson, RB Ronney Jenkins, FB/TE Marty Maurer, CB Alex Molden, LB Sam Rogers and DT Scott Shultz also were back on the field this morning. WR Jeff Graham returned as well. He had been at memorial services for the late Korey Stringer.

Jim Trotter reports for the Union-Tribune the San Diego Chargers began introducing parts of their passing game to their wide receivers, tight ends and running backs during a voluntary workout yesterday. The talk of the day was details. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner wants the team remembering the details like fullbacks not tipping their hand to defenders by chopping their feet coming out of the backfield. 13 players were on hand yesterday. The Chargers will continue the workouts twice a week this month, then conduct a mandatory mini-camp the first week in May. Among the players present were WRs Jeff Graham and Curtis Conway, TEs Freddie Jones, Steve Heiden and Reggie Davis and QBs Moses Moreno and Dave Dickenson. QB Doug Flutie and RB Terrell Fletcher were away on personal matters but are expected to participate later this week or early next week.

The North County Times reports newly signed DE Marcellus Wiley brought a positive attitude with him to San Diego and he displayed it yesterday when he addressed the local media. He spent the majority of his time campaigning for QB Doug Flutie, the "Magic Lamp," as he called him, to come to San Diego. Wiley went so far as to say, "Flutie better be here." Wiley said of all the QBs available, Flutie could have the biggest impact. Wiley said he thinks TE Freddie Jones is going to be a Pro Bowler very soon. He likes the WR duo of Curtis Conway and Jeff Graham.

Robinson had NFL career highs with 11 catches for 170 yards and three touchdowns (1, 36 and 42 yards) in the Bears’ 28-10 win over the Detroit Lions. Robinson leads the NFC in receiving yards with 1,223 and needs 79 yards to break the Bears’ single-season record of 1,301 by Jeff Graham in 1995. This is Robinson's first Player of the Week honor. Mamula had six tackles and three sacks for minus-23 yards and led a Philadelphia defense that held the Patriots to 62 rushing yards, had six sacks, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries in their 24-9 win over the New England Patriots. This is Mamula's second Player of the Week honor. Michael, our Saints correspondent, citing the Biloxi Sun Herald tells us the Saints are currently $4.4 million under the 1999 salary cap and are pondering their next Free Agent moves. They are reportedly still interested in FAs WR Jeff Graham, LB Rob Frederickson and S Marty Carter (visiting Atlanta today), who have all visited the team recently. According to their agents, Graham and Carter are interested in signing with the team. The Sun-Herald believes the Saints have lost interest in RB Darick Holmes.

Michael, our New Orleans correspondent, reports The Biloxi Sun-Herald reported today the team has been in contact with agents for WRs Charles Johnson (just signed with Philadelphia), Leslie Shepherd and Jeff Graham, as well as RB Darick Holmes of Green Bay. The paper quoted a report by New Orleans' WVUE-TV that stated Holmes would visit the team over the next two days. Mark the Saints' interest in Holmes as strong. Saints' capologist Terry O'Neil told WWL Radio yesterday that he expected the Saints to announce another FA signing tomorrow and Holmes is expected to be the only visitor to the Saints between now and then. Speculation also indicates the Saints may have already begun work on a contract with Holmes.

The Eagles are even more in need of a WR after they did the expected and released high priced Jeff Graham. He was due a $3 million roster bonus which the Eagles did not want to pay. "This is a real positive situation for me," Shepherd said. "They need receivers here. I would welcome this with open arms. Philadelphia is definitely a place that's high on my list." Shepherd says he would be willing to cancel his other scheduled visits if the Eagles wanted to sign him.
