The New York Jets have saved $11.5 million in salary cap space between CB Antonio Cromartie's restructure, WR Santonio Holmes' pay cut ($3.5 million) and the release of DT Sione Pouha. The team is now at $15.7 million under the cap.

New York Jets general manager John Idzik will approach a few players about restructuring their contracts. The most likely candidates are LB David Harris (team-high $13 million cap charge), WR Santonio Holmes ($12.5 million), CB Antonio Cromartie ($10.8 million), OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson ($10.7 million) and DT Sione Pouha ($6.2 million). QB Mark Sanchez ($12.9 million) could also be a candidate; however, it doesn't make sense to push his money into future years, considering his tenuous position on the team.

The New York Jets may consider releasing DT Sione Pouha because they would save $3.8 million in salary cap space. Pouha has been dealing with a back injury but is not expected to need surgery.

New York Jets DT Sione Pouha (back) will not need to undergo surgery to repair his back injury and plans to rehab the injury.

New York Jets DT Sione Pouha (back) will undergo an MRI next week to determine if will need offseason surgery on the back injury he has been dealing with since training camp. He said the pain has subsided in recent weeks and that he hopes to avoid surgery.
