The San Jose Mercury News is reporting San Francisco Giants IF Kevin Frandsen has signed up to play for Gigantes de Carolina in the Puerto Rican winter league. Triple-A Fresno manager Dan Rohn will skipper the club, which also will include P Steve Palazzolo, P Matt Kinney and P Geno Espineli.

Frandsen (Achilles') only got in one at-bat during the entire 2008 season, with that coming on the last day of the regular season, before getting about 50 at-bats in instructional league games. He hopes he can find an opening on a winter league team after the conclusion of the AFL in late November.
