Sat, 10 Feb 2007 08:52:49 -0800

ESPN.com reports former New England Patriots LB Ted Johnson said in an interview with ESPN Friday, Feb. 9, that head coach Bill Belichick should not be blamed for Johnson practicing at full strength with a concussion during the 2002 season. "I don't want to place blame anywhere. It probably could all go around to a little bit of everybody. I can't honestly sit here and say Bill Belichick knew what second-impact syndrome was," Johnson said. Johnson added Friday, Feb. 9, that he is scared, anxious and worried about his future as he battles depression and memory loss. Johnson is showing early signs of Alzheimer's, according to his current neurologist. "Right now, I would probably describe it as a little scary, a little unsure," Johnson said. "Lot of anxiety. Lot of disappointment. Shame."

Johnson will remain on crutches for a few more weeks, after which he will step up his rehab. Johnson said his return is not a matter of if, but when. The fact that head coach Bill Belichick didn't place Johnson on injured reserve is strong enough indication that the Patriots expect him to return sometime in November. If the team felt Johnson was done for the year, or would be able to contribute to only a few games, they would have shelved him for the year.
