Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Rip Scherer blames himself in large part for Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme's struggles last season, reports Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Scherer said, "We took Jake away from being the guy that he had become, which had gotten him the success he had. It was like trying to stick a square peg in a round hole. I kind of kick myself, because I hate that Jake went through that under my watch."

Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Rip Scherer has decided to remain with the team. Scherer said in a text message that he declined an offer to become the University of Virginia's offensive coordinator. He added he was not involved with interviewing for any other jobs.

Scherer interviewed last week at the University of Virginia to be their offensive coordinator, and it is possible the Panthers would grant Scherer permission to interview for the Steelers' job.
