Padres | Yasmani Grandal to begin playing in games

Wed, 15 May 2013 14:49:11 -0700

San Diego Padres C Yasmani Grandal will leave extended spring training and report to Triple-A Tucson Saturday, May 18, and he's eligible to come off the restricted list May 28 after being suspended for the first 50 games of the season. "He feels good, everything is solid, offensively and defensively," general manager Josh Byrnes said recently. "We will get him ready to play in those games and evaluate where he is and where our roster is." C John Baker is hitting only .115 and will likely be optioned to the minors to make room for Grandal.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal looked good in his major league audition last year, but the PED suspension makes us question how much of his production was actually real. It's unclear how much time he'll split with Nick Hundley, too. It's time to snatch him up in NL-only leagues if he's out there, but you can probably wait on him in mixed formats.
