David Moore, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips will return next season, although owner Jerry Jones has yet to make an official announcement. Jones conceded the addition of assistant coach Paul Pasqualoni is a sign that Phillips will return as the hire would not have been without his approval. "I think it does," Jones said. "Certainly, I'm pleased with the job Wade is doing and has done. I certainly am interested in building on what we've got going right now in the positive way."

Updating a previous item, Harvey Fialkov, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports Miami Dolphins outside linebackers coach Jim Reid is undergoing undisclosed surgery Thursday, Sept. 25, and will be out indefinitely. Reid was taken to a hospital via ambulance after feeling dizzy following a 10-minute run Wednesday, Sept. 24. Defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni will take over Reid's duties.

Chad Peters, of DallasCowboys.com, reports Dallas Cowboys' players have been pleased with the addition of tight ends coach Paul Pasqualoni, who brings a fiery demeanor to the sidelines. "He got mad and he cussed himself out," said TE Dan Campbell. "It was great. He's a character and he's intense. That's the best way to describe it. That guy gives 110 percent." Pasqualoni joined the Cowboys in the offseason following a 14-year head coaching stint at Syracuse, where he led the Orange to a 107-59-1 overall record.
