The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to sign a veteran quarterback in free agency once the lockout is lifted, particularly with QB Carson Palmer wanting to be traded. The team selected QB Andy Dalton in the NFL Draft. "We really have no one that's taken a real NFL snap. It's prudent to look into that area if that person is the right fit for us," said quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese.

Lewis gave Zampese a week to make a decision. The Bears did not extend a contract offer, according to a source. Lewis said Bears head coach Lovie Smith was made aware of the deadline after the Bengals granted Chicago permission to speak with Zampese.
