Oakland Raiders DL Richard Seymour could be another veteran player on the team who is released following CB Stanford Routt's departure Thursday, Feb. 9. Seymour is in the second year of a two-year, $30 million extension with $15 million due this season.

Oakland Raiders DL Richard Seymour enters the final year of a two-year, $30-million contract in 2012. He turned 32 on Oct. 6, and his knee started to ache with more frequency last season. However, he was still selected to his seventh Pro Bowl, and was named second-team All-Pro. Seymour's six sacks in 2011 were the second-most of his career.

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie indicated that the team might switch from a 4-3 to 3-4 defensive alignment. "That's what I am familiar with," McKenzie said Wednesday, Jan. 11. LB Rolando McClain, DL Richard Seymour and LB Kamerion Wimbley have played in a 3-4 scheme during their NFL careers.

Oakland Raiders WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh and DL Richard Seymour said Tuesday, Jan. 10, that head coach Hue Jackson did not lose the team down the stretch. "No, not at all," Seymour said. "I didn't hear any rumblings about that. I heard news reports make more of a deal about it than it actually was. I feel like Hue did a good job and made great strides as a coach." Houshmandzadeh also had this to say: "I don't think he lost the locker room, and I'd be eager to find a guy who didn't think he did a good job. I would be hard-pressed to find a guy who doesn't like Hue. I'll bet you San Diego, Kansas City and Denver like this move, because we would have been good next year with Hue."

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said he needs more production from DL Richard Seymour down the stretch, even if Seymour is often double-teamed. "He's got to play better," Jackson said. "Our whole defense has to play better. Our whole team has to play better. So it's not just Richard Seymour. There's 10 other guys on defense and there's 11 guys on offense, and there's another 11 on special teams that need to play better than what we have."
