Roger Phillips, of InsideBayArea.com, reports San Francisco 49ers rookie WR Rasheed Marshall's transition from quarterback to receiver/punt returner has not gone as smooth as he thought it would. "I didn't think it was going to be a cakewalk," said Marshall, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. "It's just so much. Maybe I was thinking that it wasn't going to be as tough. But at the same time, I don't have a choice. I've just got to roll with it." Despite the struggles, Marshall said that he thinks he'll overcome it. "I just need to take everything that they're throwing at me and just go with it, because the more opportunities for myself, I think the better off I'll be."

49ers | Marshall Adjusting to Wide Receiver Role

Fri, 15 Jul 2005 20:21:42 -0700

Mickey Furfari, of the Daily Mail, reports San Francisco 49ers rookie WR Rasheed Marshall, a college quarterback, is adjusting to life as an NFL wide receiver. "I'm finally getting into the swing of running routes," Marshall said earlier in the week. "Running routes is the most difficult thing in the transition from quarterback," he said. "On this level, it's so hard not to tip off a cornerback and let him know what you're going to do." The 49ers drafted Marshall because of his athleticism. Marshall has spent several weeks working out with the 49ers. Marshall knows it's going to be quite a challenge to make the 49ers squad as a rookie, but he hopes the fact he's also working as a punt returner will help his chances. "I know I will be a punt returner, but I'm not sure whether it's first or second," he explained. "That's up to me, I guess."

Thu, 10 Feb 2005 14:31:15 -0800

Jerry DiPaola, of the Tribune-Review, reports former West Virginia QB Rasheed Marshall plans to convert to wide receiver when he attends the NFL Combine in February. Despite being the fourth-leading passer all-time at West Virginia, Marshall intends to catch passes instead of throw them at the next level. Marshall (6-1, 190) has been working out in Atlanta with a personal trainer, running routes and working on his receiving skills. He also said he can double as an emergency quarterback for an NFL team, if necessary.
