New York Jets defensive line coach Karl Dunbar said the team plans to use more of Buddy Ryan's "46" defense next season. "We're going to play a lot of that 46 defense," Dunbar said. "You get in that 46 defense, you're going to get a lot of one-on-one blocks, and when we put athletic guys on the field, bad things happen for the offense." The "46" defense is a variation of a 4-3 front, with four down linemen and eight men in the box.

A restraining order has been filed against Minnesota Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar. However, Dunbar's attorney said Wednesday, May 18, there are two sides to the allegations. Paperwork was filed Tuesday, May 17, by a woman asking for Dunbar to stay off of her property. The woman said Dunbar has shown up at her home twice since a sexual assault in April. She said in the paperwork she is "afraid of retribution and unsure of his behavior." Dunbar is denying the allegations. He is cooperating with the investigation and does not expect any charges.

Henderson joined CB Fred Smoot in endorsing linebackers coach Fred Pagac as the club's next defensive coordinator now that former defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin has departed. "I think for continuity reasons he would be a good fit because the guys are used to him," Henderson said. "I think all the guys respect him as a coach, knowing that he's been around the game for so long. We all respect him and what he's doing and all the things he brought to the defense as the linebacker coach." Defensive tackle Pat Williams agreed. "If they bring in somebody from outside, guys have to get used to him and learn to trust that guy," Williams said. "We had trust in coach Tomlin and all our coaches. It would be kind of hard if they brought in a brand-new guy." Another potential in-house candidate is defensive line coach Karl Dunbar.

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports with the departure of defensive line coach Karl Dunbar to LSU, the Chicago Bears are seeking a replacement but they will not be able to turn to Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant head coach and defensive line coach Rod Marinelli to fill their vacancy. Marinelli, who is close friends with Bears head coach Lovie Smith, was denied permission by the Buccaneers last year to interview for Chicago's defensive coordinator position. This time around, he has received a new contract from Tampa Bay and is not a candidate for Chicago's position.
