Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is very excited to be working with new quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates again. The two worked together with the Denver Broncos from 2006 to 2008, where Cutler completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 9,024 yards, 54 touchdowns, 37 interceptions and an 87.1 passer rating in 37 starts. "I'm very excited to be working with Jeremy Bates again," Cutler said. "We got the right guy for the job."

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the team fired offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates because of a philosophical issue between the team and Bates, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times. "Just really is a philosophical issue," Carroll said. "We needed to move in a different direction. So we took that into account. He did a tremendous job for us in so many ways, and I've been together with him for a couple years. He's a tremendous football coach, but we just had to move on."

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks didn't seek out a trading partner for WR Deion Branch but rather the New England Patriots' interest in him combined with the arrival of WR Brandon Stokley helped convince them to trade Branch. "Without Brandon Stokley coming in here, we never would have thought about it," Carroll said. "Stoke came in here and showed his ability right off the bat. Really, the background he had with Jeremy Bates, and then his ability to come out here and prove it to us that he was ready to take over that role, really made it an opportunity for us." Carroll also said New England approached acquiring Branch aggressively.
