Jets | Long delay in Ryan Fitzpatrick talks

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 17:09:29 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) and the New York Jets have not discussed a new contract in over a month, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

Fantasy Tip: One would think Fitzapatrick and the Jets will grind out a deal sometime in the near future, and ideally before training camp. Fitz would be their best option at quarterback and have the most fantasy value. Geno Smith, in the meantime, is easily in the QB2 conversation.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick situation could linger

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 16:37:08 -0700

It looks as though the New York Jets may wait to view the practice repetitions of QB Geno Smith in training camp before there is more movement in talks with free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets), according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: The stalemate continues. It's probably in the best interests of both parties to have a reunion, but both sides are being stubborn. If Fitz doesn't return, Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker will surely suffer. If the QB does return, he's a high-end fantasy backup, at best. Stay tuned.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jets not a given

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 08:00:55 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) re-signing with the New York Jets by the start of training camp, or shortly after, isn't a sure thing. The Jets have been offering a three-year, $24 million deal with $12 million in the first year.

Fantasy Tip: A deal would make a lot of sense for both sides, and it could just be a game of chess right now. Fitzpatrick threw for 3,905 yards and 31 touchdowns last season, but he turns 34 in November. It's tough to take him as anything more than a great QB2 in fantasy.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick to sign soon?

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 12:26:55 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) and the New York Jets should have more flexibility in future negotiations because the signing of DE Muhammad Wilkerson brings the possibility of a one-year deal. New York had just $3.4 million in salary cap space before the Wilkerson deal. That will now increase by a few million because the Jets no longer have to carry Wilkerson's $15.7 million franchise tag.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick is still the best option for the Jets at quarterback, and perhaps the Wilkerson deal can help push the envelope. If the envelope is eventually sealed with a Fitzpatrick deal inside, he'll be worth a look as a high-end QB1 to low-end QB2.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick remains at impasse

Tue, 12 Jul 2016 06:19:53 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has experienced no progress in contract talks with the New York Jets with just over two weeks away. Time may be running out since training camp felt like a deadline to get a deal done.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick had a breakout year at 32 last season, but questions linger if he can repeat it. He's best drafted as a QB2.

Jets | New York won't wait forever on QB

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:24:16 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's (Jets) impasse with the New York Jets does have an expiration date, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said the Jets will rely on QB Geno Smith to be their starter if Fitzpatrick's contract is not worked out by a certain time. Bowles didn't say when exactly that time would be, but he indicated that it wouldn't be preseason. Fitzpatrick would start if/when he does re-sign, though.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick would be the only Jets quarterback with any meaningful fantasy value if he does return. Smith is a career fantasy backup, while Fitzpatrick is in low-end QB1 to high-end QB2 territory.

Jets | Could add quarterback

Jets | No deadline for Ryan Fitzpatrick

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 15:39:31 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) and the New York Jets do not have a "drop-dead deadline" to get a deal done, according to head coach Todd Bowles. It was reported Monday, June 13, that there had been no progress in contract talks with Fitzpatrick.

Fantasy Tip: The waiting game will appear to continue for the foreseeable future. Fitzpatrick would enter the high-end QB2 conversation if he is re-signed. Geno Smith is easily a backup fantasy quarterback.

Jets | No progress in Ryan Fitzpatrick talks

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 05:42:10 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) hasn't made progress on contract talks with the New York Jets, as of Monday, June 13. It's unknown if something will get done before training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick emerged as a low-end QB1 last season. If he re-signs with the Jets can he duplicate that? He's a safer QB2, but he still has to sign with a team as well.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick makes counteroffer

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 08:11:39 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) let the New York Jets know that he'd be willing to re-sign for one year and $12 million guaranteed. The Jets are offering the same amount as part of a front-loaded three-year, $24 million deal. However, the Jets are being stubborn and aren't willing to indicate they would be willing to sign him for just one year. There haven't been negotiations between the sides for months.

Fantasy Tip: This represents progress, even if the two sides aren't currently engaging each other. It's up to the Jets now, who clearly don't want to pay Fitz much past the 2016 season. It seems inevitable that he'll return to Gang Green, but anything can still happen. The Amish Rifle's highest fantasy value will come with the Jets, but he's still safest as a high-end fantasy backup.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick stance could escalate

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 16:17:42 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's (Jets) impasse with the New York Jets could be more heavily addressed in the coming weeks, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini. Head coach Todd Bowles said the Jets could wait until training camp in late July, but Cimini believes New York will want to get something done before that.

Furthermore, if Los Angeles Rams QB Nick Foles is released, then it could prompt the Jets to force the issue with their prodigal quarterback, as Foles could be deemed a last-chance option for a veteran signal-caller.

Fantasy Tip: This has been one of the more intriguing situations that have unfolded this offseason. It still seems unlikely that Fitzpatrick won't be playing for the Jets in 2016, but we'll see who wins this game of chicken. If Fitzpatrick does re-sign, he's worth a look as a high-end backup fantasy quarterback.

Jets | NYJ not giving Ryan Fitzpatrick one year

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 05:34:33 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is open to signing a one-year deal with the New York Jets worth $12 million, but the team is not willing to make that offer to him, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick and the Jets are still unable to reach an agreement, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation. The Jets are probably Fitzpatrick's best chance to start in 2016 and would be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback if he re-signs. He would help the fantasy value of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will take one-year deal?

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 22:54:53 -0700

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is prepared to end his contract stalemate by informing the club he will take a one-year, $12 million guaranteed deal for the 2016 season, a source said Wednesday, June 1. It is the same money with the same guarantee the Jets are offering in the first year of their frontloaded three-year, $24 million proposal that has backup money in the second and third year. If the Jets were to agree to a one-year deal, it would be a $12 million cap hit, and they would need to clear $8.9 million.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick set the franchise record with 31 passing touchdowns last season. If he were to get his one-year contract and a chance to play for another big pay day next season, he might be a sneaky QB1 heading into 2016 with plenty of incentive for another big year.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick could sign elsewhere

Tue, 31 May 2016 10:56:26 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) could spurn the New York Jets to take less money for another team on principle alone, according to team sources. The Jets no longer believe that re-signing Fitzpatrick is inevitable after their contract offer terms became public this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: It's anyone's guess as to what Fitzpatrick will do this offseason. His highest fantasy value as a fringe QB1 based on matchups would come if he re-ups with Gang Green and once again has Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker at his disposal. If Geno Smith is starting in Week 1 for the Jets, you'll need to significantly downgrade both Marshall and Decker.

Jets | More on Jets' offer to Ryan Fitzpatrick

Sun, 29 May 2016 13:20:23 -0700

Updating a previous report, Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has received a three-year offer from the New York Jets worth $24 million, according to sources. Fitzpatrick would receive $12 million in the first year of the deal and $6 million in the other two seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick is still looking for a lucrative contract, but it appears the Jets are his best option to start in 2016. He would be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues if he re-signs and would help the value of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Jets | New York comfortable with quarterbacks

Sun, 29 May 2016 11:08:11 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is currently slated to start at quarterback with free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) still not re-signed. Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, however, said the Jets are comfortable with whoever wins the starting job.

Fantasy Tip: This implies that rookie Christian Hackenberg may have a chance at the starting job, but it would behoove the Jets to bring back Fitzpatrick. If Fitzpatrick somehow isn't brought back, then Smith would be the better option, but he shouldn't be starting for any fantasy squads.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick has offer from Jets

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:41:00 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has received a three-year offer from the New York Jets that would pay him $12 million in the first season, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick has limited options since it appears most teams have their starting quarterback, so the Jets appear to be his best option. He would be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback if he signs with the Jets and would help the value of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Jets | No talks between Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jets

Wed, 25 May 2016 18:31:14 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has not had contract talks with the New York Jets over the last few weeks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets still appear to be the leading candidate to sign Fitzpatrick, but the two sides are still far apart in terms of money. Fitzpatrick would be a low-end No. 1 in deeper leagues if he re-signs and would help the fantasy value of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Jets | Coach hopeful Ryan Fitzpatrick is re-signed

Wed, 25 May 2016 11:29:28 -0700

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said he's "hopeful" that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is re-signed by training camp. However, Bowles didn't say he's confident.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick and the Jets are still far apart in negotiations for a new deal, and it's anyone's guess at this point as to whether something actually gets done. It's in Fitz's best interests to return to New York, where he had a great year with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker at his disposal. If Fitzpatrick returns, he can be a fringe QB1 based on matchups, but he'd be best drafted as a QB2.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick wants to return

Mon, 23 May 2016 10:27:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) wants to re-sign with the New York Jets. "I would like to be back," Fitzpatrick said. He's been in a three-month contract stalemate with the Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Both sides still have a large gap in money, but there is still time for an agreement to be reached before training camp. Fitz enjoyed a renaissance season with the Jets in 2015 and his highest fantasy value is in green and white. He developed excellent chemistry with both Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker and would be a fringe fantasy starter based on matchups if he returns.

NFL | Ryan Fitzpatrick not retiring

Mon, 23 May 2016 09:48:24 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) dispelled rumors that he was considering retirement Monday, May 23. "I'm playing," Fitzpatrick said. "I'm playing football next year."

Fantasy Tip: The Jets and Fitz remain in a stalemate in terms of re-signing a contract. There remains a chance that the two sides can find common ground in order to get Fitzpatrick signed before training camp begins. Fitz had a revival last year with Gang Green, and the best spot for his fantasy value would be to remain in New York. If he re-signs, he's a fringe fantasy starter as a low-end QB1.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick deadline soon?

Thu, 19 May 2016 13:31:28 -0700

The deadline for free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) could be sooner than expected. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport posits that the first legitimate deadline is when the New York Jets' organized team activities start Tuesday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Next Tuesday isn't the final date Fitzpatrick can re-sign, but it may be the first real important date. The standoff may very well last past then, possibly up until or past training camp. If Fitzpatrick does eventually re-sign, he'll immediately enter the low-end QB1 conversation.

Jets | Teammate expects Ryan Fitzpatrick back

Tue, 17 May 2016 18:55:12 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is not close to a contract agreement with the New York Jets, but Jets WR Eric Decker said he expects Fitzpatrick to be the starting quarterback in the first regular season game.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets are still interested in re-signing Fitzpatrick but are not willing to pay him what he is asking for at this point. Owners should keep an eye on the situation because Fitzpatrick would be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some deeper leagues and would help the fantasy value of Decker and Brandon Marshall.

Jets | Eric Decker talks Ryan Fitzpatrick

Tue, 17 May 2016 16:58:43 -0700

New York Jets WR Eric Decker said the Jets need to be prepared to play without free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets). Decker does want New York to re-sign the veteran quarterback, but he's focused on the football team as a whole. "All I can say is we have to move on without him right now because they are stuck where they are with the business decision," Decker said. "But, again, we have a job to do and that's to be the best football team, field the best football team, of who we have in the locker room right now."

Fantasy Tip: Decker and the offense would be better off with Fitzpatrick back, but Decker is right. For now, Geno Smith will start at quarterback for the Jets, which would somewhat lessen the fantasy value and his cohorts like Brandon Marshall. That being said, Decker and Marshall are still in WR2 and WR1 territory, respectively, with Marshall having more value in PPR leagues.

NFL | Ryan Fitzpatrick could affect draft

Wed, 11 May 2016 16:31:53 -0700

If free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is signed Thursday, May 12, or onward by a prospective team, then he will not count against that team's compensatory draft picks.

Fantasy Tip: As Rich Cimini noted, it's unlikely that this little advantage would drive a team to sign Fitzpatrick if he hasn't been signed already. It could still be some time before Fitzpatrick is signed or re-signed. If he returns to the Jets, then he has low-end QB1 potential again.

Jets | No urgency with Ryan Fitzpatrick

Tue, 10 May 2016 11:56:08 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's (Jets) status remains in limbo with the New York Jets. Owner Woody Johnson said there's no urgency to re-sign Fitzpatrick at this point with training camp still two months away.

Fantasy Tip: A borderline QB1 last season remains without a team. If Fitzpatrick is not re-signed then Geno Smith would likely start for the Jets, at least to begin the season. As has been proven in previous years, though, Smith is not a reliable fantasy option.

Jets | New York could keep four quarterbacks

Tue, 03 May 2016 16:15:31 -0700

New York Jets QBs Geno Smith, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, and possibly free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) could all be on New York's roster when the 2016 regular season commences. General manager Mike Maccagnan said if it's in the best interest of the team then they will keep four quarterbacks. "It's been done before," Maccagnan said. "To me, it's a position where you have to take some time to really invest, grow and develop players."

Fantasy Tip: The Jets aren't investing as much as they should be, though, as Fitzpatrick is still on the free-agent market. Smith is in line to start right now, but he has proven to be too inconsistent to consider starting in tradition fantasy leagues. Fitzpatrick has the most value for the Jets and for fantasy purposes.

Jets | General manager excited for Geno Smith

Tue, 03 May 2016 13:31:38 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith could start for the Jets in 2016 if free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is not re-signed. That prospect has general manager Mike Maccagnan excited. "Right now, Geno has been a starter for us, and actually played quite well prior to getting hurt last year, and was doing a good job in the offseason," Maccagnan said. "So we're kind of excited to see what Geno can do, coming back. And we feel good about that."

Fantasy Tip: The Jets do still want to re-sign Fitzpatrick, and he's definitely a more reliable fantasy option than Smith. Even if Smith somehow does start, he shouldn't be starting on your fantasy teams.

Jets | No talks between Jets, Ryan Fitzpatrick

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 18:32:19 -0700

The last time free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets had any meaningful talks was "weeks ago," according to one source.

Fantasy Tip: The drama increases, as the Jets selected Christian Hackenberg in the second round of the NFL Draft. With Bryce Petty selected in the draft last season, the Jets are stockpiling talent at the position. Fitzpatrick might not be returning to Gang Green, who also still have Geno Smith.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg should sit first year

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 18:01:31 -0700

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg is expected to sit and grow in his first season in the NFL. If free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is re-signed, it could very well only be a one-year deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets were in need of a quarterback with the iffy Fitzpatrick situation. Fitzpatrick will start if he does return, but Hackenberg could be the future of the quarterback position. Stay away from him in fantasy this season, though.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick may not play

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 13:30:02 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has told people he would rather not play football this season than play for the New York Jets under their latest contract offer.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick and the Jets are clearly at odds, and Fitz could very well end up on another team if New York isn't willing to increase their offer. The grizzly, veteran quarterback played like a borderline QB1 last season. He could be in the same territory in 2016 depending on where he's quarterbacking.

Jets | NYJ doing due diligence with Brian Hoyer

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 10:15:06 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) is receiving some interest from the New York Jets, but Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said the team is doing due diligence on Hoyer. Maccagnan also said talks to retain free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick may take some time.

Fantasy Tip: The writing is on the wall right there that the Jets are still looking to retain Fitzpatrick, and it's a matter of negotiating. Hoyer could be a low-end QB2 if he lands a starting gig. Fitzpatrick is a solid QB2 if he returns to the Jets.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick still Jets' top priority

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:58:45 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) remains the New York Jets' No. 1 priority despite free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) visiting Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to imagine Fitzpatrick not eventually re-signing with the Jets, especially considering the extra money New York received when D'Brickashaw Ferguson retired. Fitzpatrick is coming off a career year and will be a borderline QB1 if he re-signs with the Jets.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick unlikely to sign soon

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 06:26:08 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) isn't expected to re-sign with the New York Jets before the NFL Draft, barring a significant breakthrough. The draft begins Thursday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: Fitz had a breakout year last year with 3,905 passing yards and 33 total touchdowns. He'll be a low-end QB1 or high-end QB2 if he returns to the Jets.

Jets | No progress with Ryan Fitzpatrick

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 11:33:51 -0700

The New York Jets haven't made any progress in an attempt to re-sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, according to owner Woody Johnson. Johnson also said it wasn't imperative that the team bring Fitzpatrick back. "No, no. I think this is a big team. We've made our statements regarding Ryan Fitzpatrick well-known, and I'll stick with those that we've made," Johnson said.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a big gap in negotiations, the Jets are still expected to eventually reach an agreement with Fitz. However, the longer an impasse lasts, the better the chances that the two sides will move on. New York is the best place for the Amish Rifle in relation to his fantasy value, but even then he's at best a low-end QB1 depending on matchups.

Jets | Pay cut for D'Brickashaw Ferguson?

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 16:43:28 -0700

New York Jets OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson has been asked to take a significant pay cut in order to free up more money to re-sign free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets). Ferguson is slated to count $14.1 million against the 2016 salary cap, but the Jets would like cap relief for reasons including increasing their financial flexibility and to re-sign Fitzpatrick. The amount of the pay cut is unclear, but New York would likely want to free up around $4 million to $5 million. Ferguson is set to earn $10.4 million in salary and bonuses this season.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick deadline nearing?

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 16:25:18 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) and the New York Jets still aren't close on a new deal. The Jets would like to get a deal done by April 18, when the first phase of their offseason program begins.

Fantasy Tip: There's still a long way to go before this can get ugly. If Fitzpatrick still hasn't re-signed once offseason activities have been underway for a couple weeks, then there will be real cause for concern. Fitzpatrick is the best current option for the Jets. He's a fringe QB1 if he does return to New York.

Jets | New York interested in Josh McCown

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 12:09:20 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown has drawn interest from the New York Jets, who are still in limbo with free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets). The Jets could wait until McCown is released to pursue him, but that may not be for another few weeks.

Fantasy Tip: There are slim pickings for whoever needs a quarterback right now. Fitzpatrick is still the Jets' best option, but re-signing him hasn't looked promising. If McCown is acquired by the Jets, he won't be starting material in the fantasy realm.

Broncos | Denver not rushing QB decision

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 10:03:45 -0700

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said the Broncos are not in a rush to add another quarterback this offseason. Kubiak said QB Mark Sanchez will learn the team's offense quickly because of his familiarity with the verbiage during his days in college, and Sanchez has been at the team facility offseason since he signed. Free-agent QBs Robert Griffin III (Redskins) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) are options, as well as trading for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer or Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon.

Fantasy Tip: Denver will likely bring in another QB either through the draft, in free agency or via trade to compete with Sanchez for the starting role. At this point, whoever is under center in Week 1 for the Broncos will surely be more of a fantasy backup.

Jets | No rush in Ryan Fitzpatrick talks

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 16:55:33 -0700

The New York Jets have no sense of urgency in contract talks to re-sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, according to owner Woody Johnson. Fitzpatrick could miss the entire offseason program because of his familiarity with offensive coordinator Chan Gailey's offense. General manager Mike Maccagnan said QB Geno Smith is a "definite possibility" as a replacement if Fitzpatrick doesn't return.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets and Fitz are at a stalemate right now, so stay tuned. The Amish Rifle would have the highest fantasy value if he stayed in New York, where he set career highs last year, but even then he'd be a high-end fantasy backup, at best.

Jets | NYJ owner wants Ryan Fitzpatrick back

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 10:58:50 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is a player that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson wants to return. Johnson said he is optimistic that the team will be able to reach an agreement with Fitzpatrick.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick has received interest from a few teams this offseason, but teams are not interested in him at his current asking price. Fitzpatrick should be able to find a starting job this offseason and would likely be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback no matter where he plays.

Jets | Geno Smith ready to lead team?

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 16:56:30 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is capable of leading the franchise if free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn't re-sign, according to free-agent OG Willie Colon. "I think he's taken on everything," said Colon. "I think he's ready to rise. I still have confidence in him. I think with the pieces we have around him, and continue to put around him, he can be successful. I honestly believe that. I think Geno's a good quarterback."

Fantasy Tip: Smith would have solid weapons to work with on offense if he becomes the starter for the Jets, but expecting him to be more than a mid-range QB2 in 2016 would be asking for disappointment.

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) is still a target for the New York Jets, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan. Maccagnan said there is no deadline for the team to sign Fitzpatrick.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick has talked with some other teams, but it does not appear like a team is willing to match his asking price. Owners should continue to monitor the situation because Fitzpatrick probably would be the starting quarterback if he re-signs with the Jets. Fitzpatrick likely will be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback no matter where he plays.

Jets | Nothing new with NYJ, Ryan Fitzpatrick

Thu, 17 Mar 2016 17:41:34 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has not made any progress in contract talks with the New York Jets, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick has talked with a few teams this offseason, but the Jets may be his best option. Owners should continue to keep an eye on the situation because he probably would be the Jets' starting quarterback if he re-signs. Fitzpatrick would be a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues if he has a starting job.

Jets | NYJ not close to re-signing Fitzpatrick

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 09:49:11 -0700

The New York Jets are not close to re-signing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, and they are offering "high-end backup, low-end starter" money, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan.

Fantasy Tip: It looks more likely than ever that Fitz will leave for another team now. His fantasy value would be highest back in New York where he developed nice chemistry with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, and if he leaves, he'd be no more than a solid fantasy backup.

Broncos | Denver interested in Ryan Fitzpatrick

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 09:41:25 -0700

The Denver Broncos have had preliminary discusssions with the representatives for free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets), although the club is unwilling to meet his current salary demands, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: If signed by Denver, Fitzpatrick would probably be listed ahead of Mark Sanchez on the depth chart and would have a decent amount of fantasy value with two elite receivers (Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders) on hand. He should be viewed as a fringe QB1 but would be better served as a fantasy QB2.

Jets | Brandon Marshall wants QB back

Sat, 12 Mar 2016 20:21:51 -0800

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall said he doesn't want to see free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) in "another jersey."

Fantasy Tip: Marshall had one of the best years of his career last season with Fitzpatrick under center. If the Jets don't re-sign Fitzpatrick, his replacement will have a big impact on Marshall's value.

NFL | No significant offers for Ryan Fitzpatrick

Fri, 11 Mar 2016 15:16:31 -0800

The Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams aren't looking to make a significant investment toward free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets), and the Broncos effectively ended their pursuit of him by trading for QB Mark Sanchez. The New York Jets still prefer to re-sign Fitzpatrick, but they will not overpay.

Fantasy Tip: The 33-year-old Amish Rifle had a career year as the Jets starter in 2015, and his fantasy value would be highest if he re-signed. He can be a fringe QB1 some weeks depending on the matchup, but he's safer as a midrange fantasy backup in traditional formats.

Jets | NYJ still want Ryan Fitzpatrick back

Fri, 11 Mar 2016 11:27:05 -0800

The New York Jets are still intent on re-signing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, and their offer remains on the table. However, the Jets are now considering all options.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets and Fitz are at a stalemate right now, but something could still get done. Fitzpatrick's best fantasy value is staying with Gang Green, as he developed nice chemistry with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. He's a fringe QB1 if he stays, but is safer as your fantasy backup.

Broncos | Denver has talked to Ryan Fitzpatrick

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 15:41:22 -0800

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has been contacted by the Denver Broncos. The Broncos could pursue Fitzpatrick as a backup plan if they are unable to trade for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are in dire straits at quarterback right now, and Kaepernick and Fitzpatrick are two of the three best quarterbacks available. It's too early to gauge exactly what Fitzpatrick's fantasy value will be, but he would still have two elite wide receivers to throw to in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders if he joined Denver. Either way, view him as a borderline QB1, but more as a high-end QB2.
