Former NFL head coach Eric Mangini said he regrets turning in the New England Patriots back in 2007 over their videotaping scandal. "If there is a decision I could take back, it's easily that decision," Mangini said. "Never in a million years would I have wanted it to go this way. It's disappointing whenever it comes up. It's regret, it's disappointment, it's all of those things. Because I know what it took to win those Super Bowls, and I have so much respect for the people that were involved there. I'm disappointed that this is what it's translated into."

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has been talking with former NFL head coach Eric Mangini on a regular basis to get Mangini's opinion on the Dolphins. However, Mangini would not be a candidate to become an interim head coach if head coach Tony Sparano were fired during the season and Mangini would not be a candidate if the team made a head coaching change during the offseason.

Titans | Looking for a defensive coordinator

Updating previous reports, Eric Mangini, former head coach of the Cleveland Browns, is a candidate for the Tennessee Titans' defensive coordinator position, reports Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean. However, the two sides have not discussed a contract thus far. It appears the Titans will take their time to make a decision. Head coach Jeff Fisher, according to sources, is expected to talk to a number of candidates during the coming week. Jim Mora Jr., Clancy Pendergast (University of California), and Gregg Williams (currently with the New Orleans Saints) could be options, or the team could look to promote assistant head coach Dave McGinnis to defensive coordinator. There is also a situation that could see Fisher handling the defensive play calling himself.

Dolphins sources said Ross did not want to interview Mangini for their head coaching job but did want pick his brain because of his familiarity with the AFC East.

Cleveland Browns players said they are behind head coach Eric Mangini and hope that he returns in 2011, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. "We're not far (away)," WR Joshua Cribbs said. "We are playing for an offensive-minded coach. Holmgren is here, his essence is here, he's making changes. Coach Mangini has done a lot in the defensive scheme. I think (Holmgren) can allow himself to keep Mangini and still be effective. That's two great football minds there." LB David Bowens added the players have Mangini's back. "We always have his back,'' Bowens said. "It's not up to us who stays and who goes. It's out of our pay grade. We love Eric to death. Unfortunately, sometimes the coach gets all the blame."

"Yeah, he has all the intangibles," CB Sheldon Brown said. "He learned from one of the best (Bill Belichick). Obviously he knows the plan. It's not his fault when we give up touchdown passes, throw interceptions and fumble." FB Lawrence Vickers said the players are not only playing for each other, but for Mangini. "We want to keep fighting for our coach," Vickers said. "That's the type of coach that he is, and that's how we've kept playing. Hey, he coached us to finish, and that's what we're trying to do. I want to walk out of here with my head held high and I know the other guys do, too."

"We shut that down," Mangini said Friday, June 11. "We're not going to do it." Mangini said he addressed the fight with the team after practice. "There's plenty of chances for a guy to show how tough he is," Mangini said. "That's not one of them." Mangini cited the potential for injury in a fight and the danger of penalties if a retaliation mentality is carried into games.

Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini said the trade of LB Kamerion Wimbley to the Oakland Raiders for a third-round draft pick was partly done to create an opportunity for another trade. "It's not that we didn't like Kam or didn't think he was doing good things," Mangini said. "It's just that having that pick (No. 75 overall) allows us to have just some more versatility. It's difficult to part with a character guy (like Wimbley). I really like Kam. I really do. It wasn't a function of wanting to move him. It was more of a function of where do we have depth? Where can we trade to give us some more ability to address other areas?" The Browns now own five selections in the first 87 picks in the NFL Draft.

Tom Withers, of The Associated Press, reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini believes the Detroit Lions faked some injuries to slow down the Browns' no-huddle offense Week 11. Mangini noted the Lions had several players leave the field injured, only to return. Mangini was asked if he was accusing the Lions of faking injuries. Mangini said, "I'm just saying there were a lot of them." Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said, "He's way out of bounds on that. That couldn't be further from the truth. Both teams were running no huddle, and the officials did a very good job of standing over the ball, so there was no need to do that." According to the official play-by-play, there were six different instances when the Lions had players leave the game with injuries. Each player returned to the game.

They're clearly laid out, they're clearly explained, expectations are explained. ESPN.com reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini disputed claims made by the agent for WR Syndric Steptoe (labrum), who said Steptoe's season-ending injury was caused due to poor practice conditions. Mangini, who reportedly cut short a practice Saturday, Aug. 8, because of inclement weather, said the injury Steptoe sustained wasn't a result of field conditions or the nature of the drills. "Seventy-nine other guys were able to practice effectively," Mangini said. "And really the play that he was injured on didn't have anything to do with the elements."
