"Zach Thomas gives us a guy that's been a leader, so he's going to go in there and be confident," Stewart said. "Because he's been a leader before, he's going to make sure he does whatever he can to stay ahead of the curve, know what's going on and understand our defense so he can maintain leadership qualities."

Mac Engel, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart thinks the team's defense should be the best in the league. "I feel it should be the best defense in the NFL. Everybody has to stay healthy and everybody has to play to their capabilities. But, that happens, we should be the best defense in the NFL," Stewart said.

Updating a previous item, Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers secondary coach Brian Stewart will likely be leaving to become the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. According to sources, head coach Norv Turner informed Stewart Saturday, Feb. 24, he would be released from his contract.

The future of defensive backs coach Brian Stewart remains unclear, as Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips continues to hold out hope that he can lure Stewart to his staff. Phillips has also inquired about hiring assistant linebackers coach John Pagano. "We're still working our way through," general manager A.J. Smith said.
