Updating a previous item, the Associated Press reports Washington Nationals minor league IF George Arias is a 32-year-old player coming off a five-season stint playing in Japan. He averaged 32 home runs and 86 RBI while playing for two different teams in Japan. Arias last played in the major leagues in 1999 with the San Diego Padres, hitting .244 with seven home runs and 20 RBI.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports the Washington Nationals signed IF George Arias to a minor league contract Thursday, Jan. 27. Financial terms were undisclosed.
