Jay Paris, of the North County Times, reports former San Diego Chargers offensive line coach Carl Mauck, who was recently fired by the team, feels like the team made him a scapegoat following their 9-7 season. He said head coach Marty Schottenheimer told the media that he did a good job and then two weeks later he was fired. Mauck said Schottenheimer told him he was being let go because some of the offensive linemen had digressed. There has been speculation Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron soured on Mauck. "I don't like leaving this way," Mauck said. "I thought I did a pretty good job, but I guess they didn't think so."

Casey Pearce, of Chargers.com, reports San Diego Chargers OT Shane Olivea said the transition from former offensive line coach Hudson Houck (now with the Miami Dolphins) to current coach Carl Mauck has been very easy thus far. "I think the transition really couldn't have gone any smoother," Olivea said. "[Mauck's] come in and implemented his style of teaching and everyone has bought into it. I think he realized coming into the season that we have five starters back and he didn't have to coach us up on every little thing. He gives his input but lets us play. He's pretty intense and demands a lot of us. I think we've meshed very well with him. We're all looking forward to seeing how the season unfolds and I know he is too."

Jim Trotter, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the San Diego Chargers have met with former offensive line coach Carl Mauck this week to discuss whether he is interested in resuming his previous role within the coaching staff. Mauck, who was out of football this past year, had previously worked for the Chargers from 1992 through '95 and was the line coach when San Diego made its only Super Bowl appearance, in the 1994 season.
