Anderson worked out with Pryor for two days this week Florida, where Pryor was attending the NFLPA's rookie symposium. Two more weeks of workouts are planned.

"I'm really happy with the way our offensive guys approached the offseason and they were receptive to our teaching,'' Smith said. ''Really, I had no idea we'd be this far along.'' Smith, along with assistant coaches Ken Anderson and Andy Heck, put together a 600-page playbook during the offseason that focuses on the current players' talents. The players, says Smith, have responded well to the changes.

"We started with no pages," Smith said. "Every page in there was drawn by (quarterbacks coach) Ken Anderson and (offensive line assistant) Andy Heck. We said, 'What do you want to call that play? And what do you want to call that?' The approach was that we have about 200 years of knowledge in here. Let's see what we can do. Let's see what we can call it." Part of the team's new offensive philosophy will be to stretch the field with more of a vertical passing game.
