The Browns are in need of secondary help after CB Daven Holly (knee) was placed on Injured Reserve. General manager Phil Savage, however, concluded Law was too expensive to fit into the team's budget.

The Kansas City Chiefs official training camp site reports the Kansas City Chiefs held their first practice in pads Sunday, July 30, and CB Ty Law was in attendance. He was working with the starting defense opposite CB Patrick Surtain. Head coach Herman Edwards said of Law's first day, "He's a little rusty but he's only been here a day. The great part about him is that he's in good shape. His footwork and stuff will come. We don't want to wear him out on the first day." Law will be penciled in as the starting right cornerback. That means he will play out of position, away from the left side, where he has played his entire career.

KCChiefs.com reports Kansas City Chiefs president Carl Peterson said OT Willie Roaf is not at training camp because he is taking care of personal reasons, not because of a contract dispute. Peterson added, "Personal reasons, like [RB] Priest Holmes. We do expect him. Herm and I have talked with his agent and the same thing with Priest. These are veteran guys and they don't have to be here the very first days. They have some personal things to take care of as does [CB] Ty Law. We respect that but we do expect Ty very shortly."

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Kansas City Chiefs offered CB Ty Law an average of $6 million per year over five years. He signed the deal that included $8 million in guaranteed money. Law received a $4 million signing bonus, $1 million in base salary for the 2006 season, and $3 million worth of guarantees that are written into the years 2007 and 2008. Even if the Chiefs release Law after this season, they still will owe him another $3 million in guarantees.
