Titansonline.com reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher was asked how he sees offensive coordinator Norm Chow's offense improving from last year to this year and he replied: "What he's done is taking a hard look at things he did last year and come away realizing how close we really were. We were a few plays or a play away in four or five games in winning games. What he's committed to doing is taking advantage of the people he has and unfortunately we lost a lot of those people last year. He's real excited about it and he has a good understanding of the defenses in the National Football League. I think you will see some significant improvement from our football team. That's not necessarily tied to Coach Chow, but it's tied to the fact that this team has gotten better offensively."

David Climer, of the Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow is not interested leaving the Titans for the University of Tennessee to become their offensive coordinator. There was some speculation Chow was unhappy in the NFL and return to the college game. "Absolutely 100 percent baloney," said Chow. Those who assume that Chow is miserable in his first NFL season and is job hunting are wrong, he says. Chow admits that the college-to-pro learning curve has been steeper than he expected but it is the kind of challenge that drives him. And with the current 2-7 record, Chow understands that job security cannot be taken for granted. He's been around the block a time or two. And that's why he's keeping his options open.

"We can do just about anything we want in this offense as far as being a quarterback and making changes," McNair said. "The only thing he asks is why we did that, and give him a good reason. I think that is something we haven't had in the past. As a quarterback, that's the exciting part about being a quarterback. Being a leader, you have to have that leeway to where you can change plays and not just put yourself in a bind."

Johnson spent part of practice Wednesday, June 15, testing out the system by calling plays off a script into a walkie-talkie. "We've all got to be on the same page from top to bottom," said McNair. "When you're pulling against each other, that's when it gets confusing. Me, Craig and Norm have done well together so far and I don't think we'll have any problem relaying it from one guy to the next in plenty of time."

"If we have clock problems or too many men on the line of scrimmage, I'm not dumb. If we can't work it we aren't going to force it, no way."

Chow is still adjusting to a new way of life on and off the field in the NFL. He arrives at work early each morning and doesn't return to his hotel until late at night. Chow is on a mission of his own; to have the same level of success in the NFL as he did at USC. QB Steve McNair said, "Chow is a guy who all he wants is first downs, no matter how we get it — if it's a 5-yard pass, a 6-yard pass, a 7-yard run — that's what he's looking for.'' There will be more shifting at the line of scrimmage, which will force defenses to change calls quickly and, ideally, make mistakes more often. Then the Titans plan to capitalize on those mistakes. Chow also wants his offense to spend less time in the huddle. Head coach Jeff Fisher said the transition has gone even better than expected.
