The Seattle Seahawks are expected to give free-agent QB Matt Leinart (Texans) a look, and it might even be considered likely that he'll end up in Seattle. Not only did head coach Pete Carroll coach Leinart in college, but quarterbacks Carl Smith was Leinart's position coach in 2004.

Vito Stellino, of the Florida Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Carl Smith can't wait until training camp when he can get a better understanding of where the team's offense is at. "I'm really happy with the way our offensive guys approached the offseason and they were receptive to our teaching,'' Smith said. ''Really, I had no idea we'd be this far along.'' Smith, along with assistant coaches Ken Anderson and Andy Heck, put together a 600-page playbook during the offseason that focuses on the current players' talents. The players, says Smith, have responded well to the changes.

Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Carl Smith and the rest of the offensive coaching staff completely overhauled the playbook during the offseason. "We started with no pages," Smith said. "Every page in there was drawn by (quarterbacks coach) Ken Anderson and (offensive line assistant) Andy Heck. We said, 'What do you want to call that play? And what do you want to call that?' The approach was that we have about 200 years of knowledge in here. Let's see what we can do. Let's see what we can call it." Part of the team's new offensive philosophy will be to stretch the field with more of a vertical passing game.

"We as a staff are comfortable with [using a lot of multiple-receiver sets]," Smith said. Smith has previously been criticized for being too conservative with his play calling during his time with the New Orleans Saints.
